The Hedonist Guide Series stands out above all others for one big reason--they research everything themselves. Having had a glimpse inside the guide book world, you would be surprised at how many guides out there ask people for money to appear in their guides (even when they state they are unbiased guides), or ask for money for better reviews. You would also be surprised at how few of the places that actually end up in the guide book ever actually were visited. Also, many guide books look for freebies from hotels, restaurants, etc--and as you expect, get them...Hedonist Guides doesn't seem to play that game. Paul Sullivan, the author of this particular guide book, went to every single place in it, and often went incognito. As a result, this guide is a true reflection of his views of what is happening in Marrakech, how good or not good all the places are--and it is a refreshing addition to the scene, giving a lot of listings that don't appear in other guides. As a "local" I was impressed by how many new places this guide uncovered. Marrakech is a place that changes a lot, so always look out for the latest edition.

I bought this book after booking a break in Marrakech and mostly wanting to know what the best sights to visit are. With other good reviews and being slightly more expensive than many others I thought I'd be sorted for the holiday.
About the first half of the book covers the best hotels/riads to say in - usually quite pricey - I thought this was excessive and not what most people were looking for.
The culture section is very short which was disappointing as planning what to do was the main reason I bought the book.
The food/drinks section was extensive, but again concentrated on expensive places.
On the whole, I would not recommend this book - I would have sent it back but spilt a drink over it!
