Got this little book prior to a visit of the city and it provided us with an excellent overview and some great starting points to our plan of action once there.People have commented previously about the poor maps but this didn't present any problems when navigating around the city. After all it's easy enough to pick up free tourist maps once there and Berlin itself is really easy to get around anyway. Efficient transport networks and everyone speaks excellent English should your German not be up to scratch.

I've been buying this series for a couple of years and have never had a bad weekend away, some books are better than others but Berlin was amazing. Great selection of bars and clubs from cool student dives to some serious late night action. Maps weren't the clearest in the world - but that didn't really matter as locations were more indicative. I can't reiterate more how much of an amazing weekend we had and it was all thanks to the honest reviews and amazing choices.

Really disappointing.. especially for music, shops and culture,

I was quite disappointed with this actually. I hoped it would be a collection of vital things to see and do in Berlin, but it fails a bit to be honest. As other reviewers have said, the maps are pretty rubbish, but that's okay. The fact that only a couple of items from each section were actually on any of the maps was much more annoying, as you had no real idea where any of the places were, just the general district, so using it when you are there wouldn't help much as you wouldn't be able to find anything even if you were just down round the corner from it!But the book itself is nicely divided into sections, which is good, but the section on accommodation is massive, which is pretty unnecessary as anyone thinking of going would obviously to a fair bit of research online themselves before booking anything. A much shorter section on the best places to stay would have been handy, so the length of this part feels like filler to me. The restaurant and cafe sections were better, very big and pretty much okay. They did give details of places I perhaps would not have heard of, but the clubs/music section was not great, with limited info. And the shops section was dismal, with just a short bullet-point list of a handful of shops on a few pages. Okay, shopping isn't for everyone, but most visitors would be pretty interested I would have thought, especially of the female variety, so that was a real let-down. Especially in a guide supposedly for those who wanted to indulge! The worst offender though was the culture section, tagged on at the end, and again just a tiny selection, instead of the 'must-experience' numerous things I was expecting. Berlin is a wonderful city, and the list of fabulous experiences must be massive, so I actually thought this tiny section (which just includes the most famous things you could probably already mention off the top of your head anyway) was total rubbish, and actually left me feeling really let down, especially given the price of the book. You'd be better off just getting the local magazines Tip or Zitty when you get there. All in all, a real disappointment and not a patch on Frommer's Berlin Dad by Day Guide (which was fab!). Poor.
