This represents probably the best guide to hedge creation, laying and renovation around, though it probably will not meet the need the needs of professional nurserymen and planters (Try 'New Hedges for the Countryside' for this). The new edition includes information from the National Hedgelaying Society on regional styles.

I'm finding this A4 format handbook thorough, clear, and helpful. As a complete newcomer to hedge-laying, I attended a very good local practical training day 6 weeks ago, and then bought this book to follow it up. Now I know what I am doing (!) and am happily getting on with laying hedges myself, which is fun, satisfying - and free! To illustrate the text, there are line drawings which help you to understand what is required and how different parts of the UK do things (some photos might perhaps have helped further). There's no substitute for practical instruction, but this is just what you need to follow it up. Thanks, British Trust for Conservation Volunteers, for a great handbook.

Very useful for the professional or novis, this guide gives useful information from ordering the right amount of materials to techniques, seasonal guides etc. A much valued reference book on our shelf! I know nothing about it but attempting it this year on the hedgeline surrounding our property and my husband is a trained tree surgeon who has trained and done hedgelaying before - The book is used by us both!
