Another disappointing compilation from Hed Kandi, which is now, clearly, firmly in the grip of the ever commercially dominant Ministry of Sound. There are a few too few original tracks here and one too many commercial hits which would usually be the preserve of your typical Ministry of Sound Ibiza Annual. All in all, a rather disappointing purchase when there's no Ibiza nostalgia to bring the more bland of these tracks alive.
It's that time of year again when the Ibiza compliation's flood the market - being Hed Kandi their Ibiza offering will always attract attention and complete's the summer 2011 "triliogy" of compliations after Serve Chilled and Beach House - but this one is clearly going for a different demographic - early to mid 20 somethings who grew up with the MOS Annuals and commerical house. Maybe I am labouring the point a bit...this is awful. Bog standard in every way. The first 2 CD's I would file under Utter Ear Pollution and will never see the inside of my stereo ever again. Disc 3 fair's a little better but no matter how many times you listen there is no getting away from the fact that the mixing is awful, track selection is poo(r) and slap a Ministry of Sound Annual label on this and I doubt anyone would note the difference. Fail....
What a soundtrack! Off to Ibiza myself in just a couple of weeks and I've been listening to this non-stop getting me so excited for all the parties. Really sets the tone for this Summer! Love all the Hed Kandi albums and I can safely say this is the best one yet!
