Product Description

Product Description

The concept of island hopping conjures up visions of freedom and adventure, whether it be in the sunny Aegean or the exotic Caribbean. The Hebrides offer Scotland's unique take - large skies, crashing seas and magnificent scenery, as well as wildlife, history, archaeology, sports and countless other attractions. Each island has a unique and individual character, landscape and history which have attracted and intrigued travellers and visitors for hundreds of years. "Hebridean Island Hopping" covers everything needed to get the most from a visit to any of the islands off the west coast of Scotland, all packed into one handy volume. Illustrated throughout with photographs and maps, and including practical information on what to see, where to stay, where to eat, how to get there and how to get around, this is an eminently practical, portable and essential guide for the independent traveller. It includes: Ailsa Craig; Arran; Baleshare; Barra; Benbecula; Berneray; Bute; Canna; Coll; Colonsay/Oronsay; Cumbrae; Easdale; Eigg; Eriskay; Erraid; Gigha; Great Bernera; Grimsay; Harris; Holy Island; Iona; Islay; Isle Martin; Jura; Kerrera; Lewis; Lismore; Luing; Mingulay; Muck; Mull; North Uist; Raasay; Rona; Rum; Sanda; Scalpay; Seil; Shiant Isles; Shuna; Skye; South Uist; St Kilda; Staffa; Summer Isles; Taransay; Tiree; Treshnish Isles; Ulva; and, Vatersay.

Plenty of detail. 14 Mar 2010
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
This book will not win awards for presentation (though it is not bad) but it is great for planning a trip to any Hebridean Island. It covers everything you need, especially the getting there which can be an issue for island hopping. Whist not cover to cover bedtime reading, it does encourage the reader to get out and go and have a fair expectation of what they will find.

Information ok but all photographs are so dark that they are impossible to make out .The Publishers are aware there is a problem after numerous customer complaints but cannot replace as book is not being reprinted at the moment! If you are buying this book for the illustrations dont waste your money as every other page is interspersed by black squares .
