OK, I'm a Geordie so may be a bit biased, but my wife is from Essex and we had to stop the show several times because she was laughing so much. Brilliantly written from start to finish. However, this is also very clever in that you are geniunely interested in the characters to the point that in the last episode you really care about Jim and what happens to him. The whole cast bar none are excellent, but for my money, Gina McKee delivers a standout performance. Buy it.

A suburban comedy in HEBBURN in the north east near South Shields. It's newcastle meets london with brutally honest results

Funny, but measured, sharply observed and very very real.

5 stars. 10 out of 10.

Coming from Hebburn, I was excited and a little bit worried when I first heard about this show. I had a feeling that we would be made to look like total idiots and worse than Shameless! My fears were soon allayed as I can happily state that I absolutely loved the show and, like many others, am proud to be from Hebburn. This is a must watch series and can't wait for the next one!

I bought two copies - one for myself (Newcastle girl living in London) and one for a friend (Chester girl living in the US) and we watched it together over Skype, like BFFs (and weirdos) do. It is utterly hilarious, at times poignant, and very true to life.

My only complaint is having to wait for series 2.

Hebburn proves to be the next 'Gavin and Stacy' for this generation. A relatively normal working-class Geordie family find themselves struggling with the trials and tribulations of life.

Jack takes his new bride Sarah to his hometown of Hebburn in Newcastle to visit his parents, reluctant to make the revelation that while he and Sarah were on holiday in Las Vegas, they got ridiculously drunk and married. The story circulates around this two in particular as they struggle with the trials of newly married life when financial troubles settle in after changes in circumstances mean putting their plans for the future on hold.

In the sub-plots, Jack's older sister Vicki (the stereotypical skimpily dressed orange-tanned dole bimbo) is facing her own concerns when her pub-singer boyfriend Gervaise has proven to be both a cheater and a flight-risk with high ambitions for his rather mediocre career path.

Joe and Pauline (Jack's parents) face their own tribulations when Joe is advised to leave his position in the merchant navy due to a bad heart, and Pauline's ever growing concern that he is not taking his declining health seriously.

Throw in Jack's ex-girlfriend Denise (also Vicki's best friend) who is still in love with him and still hoping there'll be a chance he'll take her back, a rather up-front and slightly forward thinking Nan, and a few stereotypical but hilarious pub-friends, and you have an entire colourful cast which are sure to delight and entertain you.

There is an absolutely massive potential with this show to become like 'The Royle Family' or (as mentioned) 'Gavin and Stacy'. It's just brilliant, and tells it the way things really are with no sugar coating, and will definitely give you a lot to relate to and think about.

I love this new tv comedy. Definitely one to watch out for in the future. Some real gem comedy acting, especially the gran, the quip about "clarty carol" the stripper being in the same care home had me in stiches. A brilliant first series. Really looking forward to the follow up.

"Have you seen Hebburn?" asked my mate Ron; of course I had, I was born there, even if I have lived in New Zealand for 30 years! No, he meant the comedy series that screened on BBC2 last year; so I bought it. As the front door of the house where the central family lived came in to view, I noted the one next door - that was my Auntie Nellie's house, which I passed every day as I delivered newspapers.! Of course I watched the whole series with interest, though obviously with a jaundiced eye. Geordie comedy is very particular, and won't appeal to all, yet the series was entertaining and not just socially interesting. Some might struggle with the humour, and certainly the show has a raw edge, but I don't agree with the local councillor who felt that the show portrayed Hebburn in a bad light. Hebburn today has its fair share of commuter middle-class housing, but the characters in the series, rough and ready as some are, do still exist. Enjoy.
