Richard Briers is truly excellent as the Hon. Galahad Threepwood in this delightful Wodehouse comedy, as indeed he is as Bertie Wooster in the BBC Radio Collection dramatisations. When this film appeared on the BBC in 1994, the Blandings saga had the makings of a great tea-time drama to rival "Jeeves and Wooster". I could never understand why a series or even a follow up were not commissioned. However, this one-off film is a comic gem of a kind rarely experienced these days- enjoy!

Heavy Weather Shines 21 Jun 2006
Format:VHS Tape
This gem of a comedy brilliantly combines all the complicated neatness of a typically barmy P.G.Wodehouse plot with excellent performances by all the actors, from Peter O'Toole's almost sublime dottiness as Lord Emsworth to Beach the Butler's perfection (why don't we see Roy Hudd in many more films?) Richard Briers and Judy Parfitt are excellent, Richard Johnson, David Bamber, Sam West, Rebecca Lacy, Benjamin Soames..all a perfect fit: Why hasn't this little masterpiece been put on DVD?

If you like P.G. Wodehouse... 25 Jan 2002
By Frances Laskey - Published on Amazon.com
You'll love this marvelous adaptation of one of P.G. Wodehouse's Blandings Castle stories. Peter O'Toole is terrific as the rather foggy-headed, pig-loving Clarence, Master (sort of ) of Blandings Castle, and Richard Briers is Gally Threepwood come to life. Intimidating Sisters, young lovers, and Beach the Butler are all played to perfection. Tremendous fun!

Over the top, totally. 30 April 2005
By Diane Yaghoobian - Published on Amazon.com
Someone said elsewhere this movie was over the top (in a negative way) but they were right - it is "over the top". Released shortly after the Jeeves and Wooster series (Fry and Laurie, BBC) and riding that wave of Wodehouse popularity, it is star-studded and lushly produced. It is as ludicrous, preposterous and befuddled-funny as Wodehouse can be, and far better production quality than the old Wodehouse playhouse TV series. Classic and wonderful.

Glorious Wodehouse 2 Dec 2006

This 78 minute masterpiece is one of the most hilarious comedies ever produced. The casting is perfect; O'Toole is just one of several who exhibit how masterful English acting can be. The direction is flawless. Why on earth isn't this on DVD? My copy is a lousy VHS print from e-Bay. This production is better than 98% of the stuff currently for sale in the catalogues. Anglophiles arise!
