A must for all cynical, humorous and intelligent beings!,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Heavy Petting Zoo (Paperback)
Although I did not purchase this book from here, I am writing to tell people not to miss it! With a total of 26 poems in "The Heavy-Petting Zoo", there is (yes here comes that awful cliche) something for everyone. With the dramatic and lucidly picturesque Nomad, the subject teasing Bridesmaid, the cynically funny A Friday Night at the End of the Millennium and my personal favourite Poem for my Future Love. Not a "heavy read", unless you want it to be! Buy this book and change your way of thinking!

Voice of the nation's lost youth? Perhaps...,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Heavy Petting Zoo (Paperback)
In her bitingly satirical and often abrasively truthful poetry, Clare Pollard doesn't waste her words - but what wonderful words they are. Barely out of her teens, Pollard knows well the pressures, issues and situations which affect today's seemingly disaffected youth, and captures the internal strife of her generation beautifully. It's all here - responses to the pressures of sex, drugs and rock'n'roll - arranged aesthetically on the page ready to blow your mind with that all-important "god, it's so true" factor. A must read for all Chemical Generation X-ers, all those lost, angry confused teens...these poems, like their author, are sharp, intelligent, angst-ridden, and insightful. Buy it. Now.

Was this calculated?,

This review is from: The Heavy Petting Zoo (Paperback)
I am sorry to say that all I saw of these poems as deliberately, and without emotion, words put together in a neat (yet quirky) fashion. I see Sylvia Plath, Simon Armitage and Ted Hughes mixed in an (admittedly) clever manner. Interesting reading as modern published poets are few and hard to come by. I look forward to reading the book next year!
