Biography

After decades of paying dues, Buddy Guy has emerged as the most heralded bluesman of his generation, a hugely influential guitarist and passionate, dynamic live performer. But Buddy started as a sideman, and toiled in the Chicago clubs for a decade before beginning his march to worldwide fame.

Buddy began as a sideman in Baton Rouge, playing primarily with the late Raful Neal (father of ... Read more in Amazon's Buddy Guy Store

Highly recommended one of his best albums. If you've never heard Buddy Guy then this would be a great start.

Eh... 10 Jan. 2004
By Docendo Discimus - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
Losing commercial ground to young blues rockers Johnny Lang and Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Buddy Guy hired their producer David Z (!) and set out to record an album of rock, soul and loud, frenzied blues rock.

Did you notice that I didn't include "blues"?
Well, that's because this isn't a blues record. Sure, Guy covers "I Just Want To Make Love To You", but in an organ-laden funk-rendition, and most of this material, while not excactly bad, is pretty forgettable. And honestly...a ZZ Top cover on a Buddy Guy record?

If you want to hear the reigning kind of Chicago blues playing generic funk and rock, "Heavy Love" is a dream come true. If you prefer him to play the blues, stay far away from it.
2 1/2 stars.

if you liked "Stone Crazy" this album isn't for you 5 Aug. 1998

Buddy really laid back for this album, unfortunately too far back. The groove was there, nice and swampy but buddy wasn't. It's a shame too, after "Slippin In" and "Damn Right I've Got the Blues", I expected much more. Hopefully this is just a transition album. The only saving grace on this album was "Had a Bad Night", and "Midnight Train".

Buddy has still got it...and then some!!!!! 18 Feb. 1999
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
I have been a Buddy Guy fan for many years. I have seen him live and I have been to his bar in Chicago. I have a big collection of his cd's and I am not sorry I purcahsed this one! I really like it even if it is maybe not as rockin'as his others. And it's NOT heavy metal. I think Buddy gets better with every cd he puts out.Of course this isn't my favorite, but I enjoy it all the same.He wrote only 2 of the songs. "Heavy Love" is kinda funky--good song.I really like "Sat Night Fish Fry"---I like his songs that are a little funny and this one is different than his usual style. Song #7 is slightly retro maybe even Motown sounding??? but I like that one too. I am glad I bought it. If you are a true Buddy Guy fan, you'll like it too.

Thoroughly modern blues from a master of the blues 30 May 1999
By mdia@hotmail.com - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
Yes, even in Australia Buddy Guy is acknowledged as a legend of the blues. His new album " Heavy Love " is modern enough to be on the Pop charts (even though it probably won't get there!)but so shot through with the blues that it would please even the most narrow minded blues purist.
On "Saturday Night Fish Fry" Buddy summonses up the ghost of Louis Jordan and then turns around and does a great version of ZZ Top's "I Need You Tonight". Yet it all sounds unmistakeably like Buddy Guy music.
Don't just read this review-go out and get the album! Look, I grew up with CD's so I can still call them albums can't I?

Anyone looking for biting guitar blues should run out & buy! 22 Jun. 1998
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
For rockin' blues, that is not over-produced or murky, you won't find one to match this record. Perfectly balanced between slow and swingin', Buddy presents eleven tunes with top-notch arrangements. I like it even more than Damn Right I've Got The Blues. Buddy just keeps raising the standard. This is the one - the highlight of Buddy's career. (My wife listened to it three times on Friday and what a weekend we had!)
