About the Author

Diana Zeuner is the publisher and editor of "Heavy Horse World" magazine, the only publication in the UK devoted to solely to heavy horses. Her interest in heavy horses began with their introduction to the Weald & Downland Open Air Museum at Singleton in West Sussex, where her late husband, Chris Zeuner, was the Museum Director and had introduced working horses to help interpret the historic building exhibits. After his untimely death in 2001 Diana took over the management of the heavy-horse stables at the museum on a part-time basis. Diana is also editor of the magazine for the Association of Independent Museums and the magazine of the Weald and Downland Open Air Museums

My wife has had a thing about 'Heavy Horses' since she was a child having grown up in Sunderland and taking a few carrots to treat the Vaux Breweries Percherons when they were doing deliveries of beer to the local hostelries. I bought her this book and she was delighted with it. It gives a history about heavy horses, some lovely photographs albeit black and white. It is moving and uplifting too. Even I enjoyed it. However, the downside. SHE who must be obeyed (the wife) was so inspired by it that she booked us a holiday in Scotland. Like a fool, I thought it really was a holiday where we could get out and about and admire the scenery. SHE (who must be obeyed) told me she wanted to see a particular farm in the highlands who had Clydesdales. To keep her happy, I went along to see these lovely horses - and they were HUGE and very beautiful and very gentle. Never gave it another thought and we returned to our home in Surrey. Now I don't know how it happened because I cannot remember agreeing to anything but 4 weeks later, SHE (who must be obeyed) took delivery of a bloomin great hulk of a Clydesdale - in fact he looked identical to the one we had seen on holiday in Scotland! So much so, that when I checked, HE WAS THE ONE we had seen on holiday in Scotland, all 1 cwt of him. All I will say is if you like horses, then this book is a wonderful present but do not purchase if you have a wife like mine otherwise you will end up with your very own herd. By the way, for all my moaning about the Clydesdale, I would not swap him for all the money in the world. He is a beautiful, gentle giant of a horse and to see him trot out onto the pasture of the Surrey Downs moves me to tears. SHE who must be obeyed has informed me that we have to get some company for him...

Bought as a Xmas gift for my son who is looking after and riding a Clydesdale Horse. He really liked the book, it arrived in time for Xmas but the outer box had clearly sat on the floor of a vehicle or warehouse was so muddy and dirty but the book was perfect!

We bought this book as a present for my partner's father - He loved it. It is full of excellent pictures of Shire Horses.

We were surprised at the size when it arrived. From the pictures on Amazon we had assumed it would be A4 size but it is actually A5.

That aside, we would still buy it again. It is a lovely book and a great present for anyone who likes Shire Horses. It is still good value.
