WELL WELL WELL a song from Bon Iver for the first time in 3 years? As my favourite band I couldn't really contain my excitement and anticipation to listen to this.

I'd say its very different to their usual stuff, the beat used is almost like a repeating loop which slowly becomes more complex as the song progresses. Can't say I was overly impressed at first but it opens up very well, it really compliments the emotion in Justin's voice when he starts to propel his voice later in the song, its grown on me. I imagine I would like this song more though if the beat used was similar to the melancholy instrumentals of their other music from Bon Iver and For Emma Forever Ago.

I feel like the change in musical sound may derive from this being for a film (if i am correct) and therefore perhaps it fits the mood of the scene perfectly and has been adapted with a bespoke sound for that purpose?
That being said I think its daring to take this direction regardless, and it does work. Perhaps we will hear more music taking this feel. For those who aren't die hard Bon Iver fans out there though they are 'taking a break', and whilst it pains me to say it I cant imagine anything else coming out from Bon Iver in a long long time. Keep an eye out for the Standing Matches and Volcano Choir, Justin's other bands.

I'd say the overall sound and feel of the track is closer to Volcano Choir (Justin's other project), rather than what we've heard from previous Bon Iver releases, but that's definitely not a bad thing.
