Product Description

Former sports star Bobby Denton has agreed to lend his fame and his name to a movie. But when he doesn't show up the film company sends straight-laced Gracie Snow to bring him to the set with surprising results. Despite his dazzling good looks and killer charm, Bobby has reservations about being a movie star- an no plans to cooperate with anyone from the studio, let alone shy little Gracie. But though she comes across as a wallflower, Bobby soon discovers Gracie is really a steel magnolia and the more time he spends in her company the more he finds himself drawn to this plain Jane with a heart of gold...

First Sentence
"A bodyguard! I don't need any damn bodyguard!" The silver toes of Bobby Tom Denton's purple lizardskin cowboy boots flashed in the sunlight as the ex-football player stalked across the carpet and planted the heels of his hands on his attorney's desk. Read the first page

SEP's best 22 Oct 2003
By A Customer
Format:Mass Market Paperback
Susan Elizabeth Phillips writes great, light hearted romances. This one is the second in a series on the Chicago Stars, although it works perfectly well as a stand alone. It is about golden boy Bobby Tom Denton and how he comes to terms with retirement from football due to a knee injury. Bobby Tom is one of the most charismatic characters I have ever come across and even though I knew from about page 5 that he was everything I detest in a man: a completely self centred male chauvinist, one can't help falling in love with him. The heroine, Grace Snow has been sent by movie producers to bring the two week lateBobby Tom on set. How she manages that is absolutely hilarious. SEP books always feature very strong female characters and this book is no exception, Gracie is also on a journey of self discovery, and the way these two very unlikely people end up together is wholly unique but also very believable.
All in all thoroughly recommended.

When I first picked up this book, I thought, uh-uh. No way can I get into a book where the hero's name is Bobby Tom. He sounded too much like some red-neck cowboy and not at all like the darkly handsome heroes of other romances. However, it took me about 2 whole seconds to fall head over heels in love with both Bobby Tom and this book. Phillips perfectly masters the romance genre combining great characterization with an interesting plot and lots of sweet humour. Yet at the same time she spices up her story with steamy sex scenes and gut-wrenchingly emotional confrontations between her 2 lovers. The romance between former NFL quarterback and Miss Gracie Snow is a roller coaster ride of thrills and smiles from start to finish. In short, its absolutely wonderful and I highly reccommend it.

This is my fourth SEP book, and I have been considering myself a fan of hers. Unfortunately this one is a disappointment. What I can not understand is the glowing customer reviews for Heaven, Texas. The relationship between Gracie and Bobby Tom (what a bad name) is rather superficial and the nature of the main characters are slightly more than ridiculous. Bobby Tom and his life style is definetly kitsch! Although SEP had tried hard to make the readers believe his talents and intelligence, the result is somehow disappointment. On the other hand, personally, I liked to read the dialogs between Way Sawyer(the rich and the bad guy of the town) and Suzy (Bobby Tom's mother), their sizzling relationship was much more interesting. Hence, I must say that their part might have been a little bit extended.
I highly recommend you to read Dream a little dream and Nobody's baby but mine from same author, you will not be disappointed if you prefer light, humorous, real love-romance.
