fasinating insight 10 Jan 2005
By A Customer
Format:Paperback
An excellent book, Poppel served in most of the theatres (not Cassino though) that the German Paras were used, and his views on the allied soldiers, tactics and weapons make a different viewpoint. It gives a great taste of what it must have been like for a soldier in one of the newest arms of modern warfare.

I was also pleased to see he didnt gloss over or deny his enthusiasm for the war and the Nazi party, which led him to being a high category prisoner when captured by the British.

The change in his outlook is all too obvious as the war drags on, which makes it very interesting reading.

Excellent war diary 9 Jan 2008
Format:Paperback
One of the best war diaries I have read. No bull, just facts from a personal point of view. An interesting perspective of a german's service during WW2. Some good photographs accompany the narative too. Excellent!

By Mr. Pj Williams VINE™ VOICE
Format:Hardcover
great insight in what it took to be a paratrooper during world war two, could have done with some more information and an expansion on some of his own thoughts but otherwise your average memoir type. over all very good
