Spectacular Eye-Candy for the Armchair Tourist!

Over the past few years, publishers have cranked out various travel photography books highlighting 100/101/500 destinations you must see before you die. Back in 2006, LIFE Magazine published HEAVEN ON EARTH, 100 PLACES TO SEE IN YOUR LIFETIME, a coffee-table-sized book featuring drop-dead gorgeous images of the Grand Canyon, Paris, Cartagena, the Natchez Trace, Kauai, Seychelles Islands, etc. Five years later, the editors of LIFE revisited the topic, added 43 new spots and came up with this expanded edition, which is now sub-titled THE WORLD'S MUST-SEE DESTINATIONS.
The 140-odd photographs found in HEAVEN ON EARTH are divided into American locales, destinations around the World and a final, removeable photograph suitable for framing of the now-discontinued Yosemite Firefall event. The America section includes most of the 'usual suspects' (Mount Rushmore, Statue of Liberty, Yellowstone, Yosemite, Lake Tahoe, Big Sur, Monument Valley, etc.) along with others such as Acadia, Katmai and the Hoh Rainforest; 20 sites in all. Likewise, the World section has perennial favorites like the Acropolis, Venice, Easter Island, Stonehenge, Rio, the great Barrier Reef, Mont Blanc, the Great Pyramid, the Taj Mahal and London along with pix of Yamdrok Yumtso, Magdalena Bay, the Mamanuca Islands, Torres del Paine and the Okavango Delta.
For an armchair tourist, HEAVEN ON EARTH is catnip. The images are gorgeous, evocative and wonderfully appealing. And, with a cover price of $29.95, it's a steal. Pick up a copy and enjoy! Recommended.

Lived in anglophonies 4years 10months and francophonies five years and a half. visited about 35 countries on earth, so pretty much global, exceptional Japanese.
The title, "LIFE Heaven On Earth" somehow fascinated me and was carried away into buying this item.
The book carries me into the world here and there where I used to be sometime ago and gives nice time with reminiscence each time I see it.

The photographies in this book are absolutely marvellous and a joy to behold.
What I would suggest is, to put pictures together according to countries and continents. It is a mismatch to see Barbados next to the Colloseum, the Tadj Mahal next to Lake Lucerne, Bruges next to the Dingle Peninsula,Mont Blanc next to Istanbul,the Black Forest next to Petra and the Sahara right after Stockholm. And the list goes on.
These are real mismatches - sorry to say - but right thru the book and this is a real pity, as the pictures are so beautiful, often out of this world.
