The day Chloe moves into his bleak apartment block, it seems there is a chance for some happiness in his life. William must try and follow these strange clues to find out just who is responsible for his disappearance. With Chloe at his side, he embarks on a dangerous journey to discover the truth.

Review

Heathen is surprisingly accomplished for such a small production --Film Monthly

Heathen is a dramatic thriller with interesting characters, excellent acting, assured direction, an original story, imaginative editing and excellent sound. Can't ask for much more than that. --MJ Simpson Cult Film Reviews

After watching Heathen I was surprised with the quality of the film considering the miniscule budget they had to work with.
I found that with it being filmed in black and white added a great sense of drama, it was a good decision on the director's part.
I was very pleased that it was filmed in UK especially in Brighton with its history and locations.
Ross Shepherd has proved he can make a good film & is obviously talented. I also found the two lead actors Tom Rudd and Amber Coombs very impressive.
The ending was really good, however I felt it could have been shortened slightly as it was a bit over explained when the following man shows up, I will not say any more as it would give away the plot.
On the whole it kept me intrigued until the end, it is a good suspense thriller, well acted and with interesting film shots.

This is a terrific movie with imaginative film-making. Set in Brighton it explores the mundane life of William whose brother is missing. As usual things pick up when love is in the air so things are looking up. The rest of the plot has a lot of twist and turns. There are many interesting characters and it becomes a bit of a guessing game. This was a tense dark story and an intelligently made film. There is some slick filming and it is quite moving in some parts. Fantastic film for independent film makers and those who appreciate a decent noir style film.

The story has been well covered elsewhere, so I'll just comment on the production values of this movie.

I'm something of a fan of low budget films, which can lead you to watch quite alot of rubbish. Heathen, however, is absolutely at the opposite end of the scale and involves you so completely, you don't even stop to consider how much it might have cost to make. Director Ross Shepherd has clearly thought long and hard about what can be done on an absolute minimal budget, and embrased these factors rather that fought them, squeezing every drop of atmosphere from the story.

Shepherd clearly knows where to put a camera and how to make it work. The film looks fantastic and absolutely drips with a shadowy, moody feel. Other indie film 'killers' have also been expertly avoided, such as an incredibly clear and professional sounding audio track and some frankly outstanding acting (by Rudd in particular).

I was fortunate enough to see a preview of this movie and am totally in for purchasing this DVD, I wholeheartedly recommend YOU do the same.
