Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

This is a downbeat and brainy set of mostly instrumental tracks from the likes of Kronos Quartet, ECM guitarist Terje Rypdal, guitarist Michael Brook, and Lisa (Dead Can Dance) Gerrard. Highlights include "Always Forever Now" by Passengers (Brian Eno, U2), and Moby's mordant cover of Joy Division's "New Dawn Fades". --Jeff Bateman

Heat is a very modernistic and retro feeling film, with the music to match. The soundtrack, by Elliot Gouldenthal, blends in with Michael Mann's crime saga superbly.
There is a broad range of music on the CD, ranging from U2 to the vocals of Lisa Gerrard to the Kronos Quartet. The music is such that you is best to listen to on your own, rather in the company of other people. It's a relatively relaxing soundtrack and the music is all good. You might notice though, in the film, some of the tracks that you hear are not featured or are used for a few seconds so some of the tracks may be unfamiliar ground.
My own personal favorite tracks are:
Heat - the main theme, a sort of calm leading to the storm soundtrack, which builds up to a great, suspenseful climax in music that is used when the characters do their heists.
New Dawn Fades - Moby are looked down upon, but this track is really good with a mix of electric guitar and vocals. It's used in the scene where Vincent Hanna (Al Pacino) is tailing Neil McCauley (Robert DeNiro) up the motorway.
Force Marker - three and a half minutes of heist music from when they rob the bank in the film. All more or less the same for the duration of the track, but is addictive and should make your toes tap.
Gloradin - Lisa Gerrard's (Gladiator, Black Hawk Down) queue to chime in with sentimental vocals that sound really good and works well with the film.
God Moving Over The Face Of Waters - the finale to the film. Performed by Moby, the final track on the CD is a group of pianos and string instruments that feels very refreshing when you listen to it.
On the whole, this soundtrack is very enjoyable and I'd recommend to most people, although I find this sort of soundtrack easier to appreiciate if you've seen the film - which you should, of course.

A marvellous collection for a fantastic movie!

This soundtrack CD features 21 powerful tracks, and acts as a great reminder of scenes from the epic film 'Heat' but also manages to stand alone as a strong diverse collection of music.

Starting with the atmospheric opening credits piece 'Heat' by score composer Elliot ('Batman Forever') Goldenthal performed by guest musicians the Knonos Quartet, the CD soon picks up pace with the active 'Always, Forever, Now' which features U2 and Brian Eno.

Midway through the track list we're treated to an [edited] cover of Joy Division's 'New Dawn Fades' by Moby which then cuts seamlessly into an enthralling piece of score music titled 'Entrada & Shootout', again by Goldenthal.

The remainder of the CD consists mainly of more orchestral pieces from Goldenthal, interspersed with two aggressive and immensely strong tracks from Lisa Gerrard.

The best track on the CD is truly left until last however, as we are treated to a 7 minutes+ track titled 'God Moving Over the Face Of the Waters', again performed by Moby. Fans of Michael Mann's film will recall this piece from the climactic scenes of the film where Al Pacino (good guy) and Robert De Niro (bad guy) play out their shootout near the airport. Who wins the the battle? Let your heart tell you.

Overall: This is an awesome collection, and the soundtrack comes highly recommended.

I bought this soundtrack purely for the final track God Moving Over The Face Of The Waters, by Moby, heard in the film's finale. This is quite simply one of best and most emotional pieces of music I have ever heard. I was thus disappointed to discover the version heard on the soundtrack is inferior to that in the film itself - lacking the powerful crescendos that give the piece its impact.
Nevertheless, the rest of the soundtrack is packed with other atmospheric gems such as New Dawn Fades, Always Forever Now and Force Marker. Each track captures the gritty urban feel of the film, thanks in part to the talent of Elliot Goldenthal, who composed most of the score. In my opinion, this CD is perfect driving music for blasting down the motorway at night!

Heat (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)
Very good soundtrack. The track called Steel Cello Lament is partly used in Public Enemies in the opening scene, of course they are both scores from Elliot Goldenthal.
