This soundtrack CD features 21 powerful tracks, and acts as a great reminder of scenes from the epic film 'Heat' but also manages to stand alone as a strong diverse collection of music.
Starting with the atmospheric opening credits piece 'Heat' by score composer Elliot ('Batman Forever') Goldenthal performed by guest musicians the Knonos Quartet, the CD soon picks up pace with the active 'Always, Forever, Now' which features U2 and Brian Eno.
Midway through the track list we're treated to an [edited] cover of Joy Division's 'New Dawn Fades' by Moby which then cuts seamlessly into an enthralling piece of score music titled 'Entrada & Shootout', again by Goldenthal.
The remainder of the CD consists mainly of more orchestral pieces from Goldenthal, interspersed with two aggressive and immensely strong tracks from Lisa Gerrard.
The best track on the CD is truly left until last however, as we are treated to a 7 minutes+ track titled 'God Moving Over the Face Of the Waters', again performed by Moby. Fans of Michael Mann's film will recall this piece from the climactic scenes of the film where Al Pacino (good guy) and Robert De Niro (bad guy) play out their shootout near the airport. Who wins the the battle? Let your heart tell you.
Overall: This is an awesome collection, and the soundtrack comes highly recommended.
