2.0 out of 5 stars Slow, boring, predictable and full of dreadful performances., 9 Aug 2007

I love reading the reviews section, especially when you get two wildly differing opinions. For me, that makes me even more likely to see a film and decide for myself.

Why do I say this? Well, the first review on this film has raved about it. I, on the other hand have to say that this is one of the worst "horror" films I have ever seen. The story has been done years ago with the vastly superior Wes Craven film "Shocker". The acting is dreadful from all involved and the special effects should be just called effects as there is nothing remotely special about them. Sadly, the poor performances continue with Mr Englund who struggles with some of the most ridiculous dialogue I have ever heard.

The films biggest fault though is the villain. He tries so hard to come across as menacing that it becomes laughable. What actually happens is that he manages to produce a performance that is about as scary as watching the Wombles. I can't remember his name but I looked him up on IMDB.com and he has had a very short filmography. After this performance, I don't think it will be getting any bigger.

So, there you have it. One review which raves about it and one which says its total crap. How do you decide? Easy, watch it yourself and see who's right!!

4.0 out of 5 stars A gem indeed, 4 Jul 2007

Very much like Ginger Snaps, The Forsaken, Dead End this is another one of those little known gems. I wouldnt call this cinema stuff persay but it is quality viewing nontheless. Robert Englund is determined to fall out of Freddy's shadow and all the typecasters and pulls this off pretty well as the tough and cool sheriff who puts the main killer behind bars and on death row personally. This movie has a little known cast, a superb cast and no annoying unrealistic scream queens thank god. The story is creepy about a killer who isnt altogether human rising from his execution to get to a teenage girl that holds some purpose. The bodycount is visious and gore hounds wont be let down here. A great movie.

1.0 out of 5 stars Oh dear!, 14 Aug 2009
why bother!?
The most dire decade for American mainstream horror was by far the 90's.
So why does a 21st century horror film want to pretend its some 90's horror flick?
Rubbish gore (in a film about a psycho who rips out hearts - how does he manage to do that anyway? - it's a big mistake to have rubbish rubber hearts for the FX) , tired direction, bored actors, dull characters and just...oh....deathly, heartless stodge.

Who the hell would want to almost re-make something as truly dire as "Shocker" anyway?
Do we need more moronic, dull-fest , 90's type horror dross along the lines of "Dr Giggles"?

Only a smallish turn by Robert Englund, as a could have been interesting character, makes the film even remotely watchable.
In a very rare event for me I gave up after 40 minutes, skipped to the (just as I thought, dire) ending with it's obvious, nonsense 'shock' ending, removed the disc and got on with my life.
