5.0 out of 5 stars Spooky and Really Good 28 Sep 2004
Format:Hardcover
I've read many of Ruth Rendell's novels and short stories and this is one of my favorites. The narrator is a disturbed teenage girl with a difficult father, it's very compelling and a quick read. I think it's one of the scariest stories I've read; the ending is terrifying.

5.0 out of 5 stars most enthralling book I've read 5 April 2001
Format:Audio Cassette
This book shows the inner hatred and fear that lurks in us all. With the twist at the end the reader will never be able to forget this book. It is one that every lover of thrillers or mysteries should read and reccomend

5.0 out of 5 stars Contemporary Modern Gothic At its Best 12 July 2009
Format:Paperback
This book is terrifying. There's the elements of a great gothic: ghosts, liminality, insanity and love. You will catch yourself looking at your siblings in a new light. The audio version of this is incredible as the actress who reads the text sounds exactly like the protagonist would in your mind. This is a quick read - it kept me entertained for two sessions at the gym and is probably one of Ruth Rendall's best - on a par with her Barbara Vane book Dark Adapted Eye.
