This romantic suspense started off with a bang from page 1 when the newly elected Maine governor, Jillian, is shot at on the day she's being sworn in. Enter Detective Dave Hutchins, one of the Executive Protection Unit's best officers. Although he isn't Jillian's bodyguard, the chemistry is still there from the moment they meet. Understated chemistry, but chemistry nonetheless. Jillian sums up the hero's charms perfectly at their first meeting when she mentally files him under "dependable," but cross-references him under "intriguing." He is the perfect blend of the strong, dependable hero, who can't get too close to the heroine for ethical/professional reasons, but whose understated charm is compelling all the same. When he is wrongfully accused of violating his professional detachment, he doesn't complain, but manfully takes his punishment. Only to be called in when the governor most needs him--and save the day!
Good suspense and romance, deftly handled.
