The fate of mankind rests in the hands of a young girl, her world renowned astronomener grandfather, and butterflies in TA Barron's HEARTLIGHT. Shortly after revealing to Kate that the sun itself is imperilled, her grandfather disappears via a magical ring. She takes its twin and finds herself in another world, riding aback a magical butterfly with rainbow wings. When danger almost claims Kate's life, help comes from a most unexpected, unusual source. Together with her new companions, Kate must find and rescue her grandfather, as the quest becomes one not only for the life of her sun, but for the universe, and perhaps for her grandfather's very soul.
***** Like many classic "children's" books, this novel is told on so many levels that if an older reader passes it by due to the "target" audience, they will be cheating themselves. While freshly simple, it has levels that only a mature mind can grasp. Mythic images from many cultures are used in new ways, and the reader will be charmed with its soul satisfying message of love and hope. What I particularly enjoyed was the fact that Kate's reliance on the Lord saved her more than once. This is an author I would gladly read any day.

Heartlight is an enchanting, exciting tale. It warms the heart in a magical way. Barron has a talent for drawing his readers into the book, as if they were a part of it.

Format:Mass Market Paperback
Well, science fiction novels are usually okay, so this one looked like it would grab my attention, but I found it lacking the can't-put-down quality that I look for in a book. It was pretty well written, however, and I suggest that you try it. I'm sure that different people would like it more than I did.

One of the best books I've ever read.
I never thought I would like this book but a friend told me to read it. I loved it. I hardly believed I'd be near tears at the end. Science Fiction lovers will love this book. Read more
