Format: Audio CD
This new CD of previously unissued broadcast material from 1959 to 1964 is a joy and also includes a previously unpublished interview with Stan Britt dating from 1970 where Matt discusses amongst other things his time in America. There are also many photographs, which I don't think you will have seen before along with pictures of sheet music and theatre posters. I think that these performances will bring back happy memories to those of you who saw Matt in cabaret or summer season as his easygoing style and personality comes across particularly in the duets. He was a major part of the entertainment world and his legacy lives on through these recordings. Of course, Matt was admired by many other singers and Dick Haymes for one thought he was the best around in the 1960s.

The gently swinging "Just in Time" backed by legendary guitarist Bert Weedon and his quartet is just one example of the delights on this disc. Likewise the Ken Jones Five back Matt on a wide range of songs including the second version of "The Heart of a Man". Duets with June Marlow (of The Stargazers) "Flattery" and "I Remember it Well" score highly on rapport. These 2 songs come from Saturday Club broadcast in 1959 on the BBC Light Programme. Bill McGuffie was the pianist and his trio back on amongst others the jaunty "French Poodle". The big emotional ballads are well represented with "Somewhere", "In the Still of the Night" and "Exodus". All in all a charming reminder of what Matt Monro was all about.
