5.0 out of 5 stars A Worthy Addition To Your Collection, 30 Aug 2001
By A Customer
I ordered this book to supplement my own campaign world, with no real idea as to what it was about in advance. I was pleasantly suprised to find that it ties in with The Sunless Citadel as part of a campaign plot. The only curious thing was the lack of a mention throughout either book that they were related in any way. I don't know if this was done "on the sly" by the author or not but it certainly turns an already interesting and rewarding stand-alone module into a very intriguing mini campaign - I wonder if there are any more out there in the same campaign !? On to the module : it's extremely well thought out. Reasons are given for the existence of each monster and there's a very good background/premis behind the whole thing. Plenty of time has been devoted to assist the GM in co-ordinating the efforts of disparate groups of monsters throughout the area, with tactics to boot. I did feel that some encounters were just too scripted although obviously as a GM you'll be sure to modify/ignore the instructions given. Perhaps this is symptomatic of ADnD modules in general ? I also felt that for a module claiming to cater for 10th lvl parties some of the encounters were extremely challenging to say the least ... especially the climactic final battle. In summary I would highly recommend this module and would go further and suggest that you invest in both Heart of Nightfang Spire and it's predecessor, The Sunless Citadel - you won't be dissapointed.
