I got into Aereogramme through John Peel who was a big fan. The last album was one of my favourites of that year (2004?0 and I have been looking forward to this release since then. However, this is not what I expected. Few and far between are the heavy guitars and many are the lush melodies that have always been part of Aereogrammes back catalogue - but necer the defining feature. It's definitely more "Inkwell" than "Dreams and Bridges".

But its not at all bad for that. This is not a sell out. This is a group compelling songs that are well crafted, melodious, and moving. The opener "Conscious Life for Coma Boy" is an Aereogramme classic that will get listened to over and over. Then comes the single "Barriers" which was similarly more-ish. And so the list goes on. Not a bad track on here and every one a winner.

If you're aer looking for Aereogramme's heavier and more experimental side, you might be dissappointed; but if you're looking for well-crafted, well-produced collection of top quality indie songs, then this is the album for you.

I have to say that this album is probably my favourite Aereogramme release. Here there's less of the quiet/loud dynamic, and much more of a focus on the production. Lush synths, strings and SFX weave in with guitar and voice perfectly, and as ever Martin's drumming is pounding. There's not a duff track on this album, but has there ever been a duff Aereogramme track?. Highlights for me include Conscious Life, Exits and You're Always Welcome. Unfortunately Aereogramme are splitting up, their last UK gig will be at the Glasgow QMU on 16th Aug 2007. As the bands final mark upon the music industry, this album is perfect. Go see them while you can because their live sound is something else. I just hope and pray that the individuals from the band continue to write music in some form.

My Heart Does Go On 5 April 2008
Format:Audio CD
Unlike the other reviewers I am not familiar with Aereogramme's earlier releases and I have not seen the band live. It was on the back of these positive reviews that I decided to get hold of "My Heart" and I thought it would be useful to describe the album for others who have yet to dip into Aereogramme. I assumed the band would be a "rock" band with loud guitars and pounding songs but this was not the case. Aereogramme are a quartet from Glasgow who split in 2007. They released only three albums of which "My Heart" is the last. The music on "My Heart" was not what I was expecting. While there are no weak tracks on the album there are for me few that really stand out save for "A Life worth Living". The music is characterised by sweeping strings and a dense atmospheric layering which is at times reminiscent of Radiohead, Sigur Ros and Godspeed but will also appeal to fans of Coldplay and Snow Patrol. While I enjoy the music of these bands I found Aereogramme's sound (on this album at least) a little monotonous and was longing for the band to change gear. It's nice enough as background music and I could imagine many of the tracks being used as a film soundtrack. Aereogramme have made a decent album here but it will not appeal to everyone.
