I'm not going to go into this book in minute detail, as I have a tendancy to talk forever, ask anyone that knows me! Instead, I'll just(!) say that the Dallas Willard writes with a humble attitude, and a care for God's people. He writes with a rare insight. I don't know him, but from what I know of Him through this book, I would be sure that he wouldn't mind me saying that this insight has not come from intelligence or intellect (although he is not without these), but rather from a life given to God, and thus a life of God calling the shots. He encourages you to discover God, to listen to God, to hear Jesus' voice. These can often seem like abstract ideas, and can often be chased with guesswork, but he points out how the subject is spoken about in the bible, and how God spoke to different people & in diiferent ways in the bible, and why.
I hope this is enough to encourage you to read the book - it put things into the bible's perspective for me & left me with a sense of peace. I guess I have to say that there's no point in reading a book with the title 'Hearing God' if you have your own self-centred agenda as to what you want God to say to you. I'd like to encourage you to believe that it really is worth trusting God enough to hear what He has to say to you. I've found, albeit slowly, that this is true. God is 100% trustworthy, 100% faithful to His promises and 100% worth listening to. Dallas Willard has been very helpful to me in pointing out how to hear God's voice, and how to learn to distinguish God's voice from the static and the other voices vying for attention. Thanks, & praise to God.
