Product Description

Synopsis

This book chronicles the bold world of women in motorcycling -- the myths, the history, and subcultures of free-spirited riders with a passion for two wheels and the road. Written by a journalist from the saddle of her motorcycle, this book is the first account of this little-known facet of women's rocky road to personal independence in America. The book is full of stories and photographs of pioneering women and their freedom machines, from the first grande dames who hitched up their skirts to ride motorised bicycles at the turn of the century, to the high-tech drag racers, endurance riders, stuntwomen, motocrossers, and exotic adventure riders of today.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great classic read 17 Oct 2011

If you love motorcycles, or want to, and it's winter or a really lousy rainy day, this ought to be on the bookshelf at home. A woman I knew (I'm a guy) recommended it to me and I liked it enough. My wife LOVED it. I recommended it to other women, and the reviews were the same. It's a bit old now, but worth a few dollars to escape on a snowy day.
5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Captivating!!! 13 May 2014

No review could really do justice to Ann Ferrar's "Hear me Roar." This is a book of fact, not fiction, and it is so captivating that I was spellbound from the first page to the end. There is a mountain of information on the history of women motorcyclists, and the book is crammed with so many wonderful pictures that you'll feel like you've been transported into the past. In my opinion, "Hear Me Roar" gives women bikers a leg up in respectability. That pleases me because it goes against the grain of the all-male biker clubs that feel that a woman's place should be restricted to riding on the back. "Hear me Roar" is a book (documentary) that ever serious biker should have in their library. I would give Ann's book six stars if it were possible.

It wasn't really what I expected. I wouldn't really recommend this to a friend. I found it rather boring to read

Excellent historical perspective on women and motorcycling. I wish I could find more of these types of books.
