Book Description

29 May 2008
This is the first book to offer healthy Indian dishes for people with diabetes. It addresses the problem of diabetes in the South Asian population, and authors Azmina Govindji and Sanjeev Kapoor have created dietary recommendations and recipes specifically for a South Asian audience. However, anyone who loves Indian food can enjoy these authentic recipes. Azmina Govindji discusses what you can do to reduce the risk of diabetes for yourself and your family. She highlights the good points about Indian cuisine, as well as focusing on portion control and weight management, healthy cooking methods and what to have when you're eating out. Sanjeev Kapoor has created 100 exceptional recipes that will help you control your diabetes and manage your weight, but without noticing any difference in taste. The recipes celebrate traditional Indian cuisine - the huge variety of vegetables, salads and chutneys that gives so much taste to the meal. And suggestions about what to eat with each dish means that you will be safe in the knowledge that your meal will help control your blood glucose levels. Essential reading for anyone that loves Indian food and wants a healthy lifestyle, 'Healthy Indian Cooking for Diabetes' will help you to eat well without compromising on taste.

5.0 out of 5 stars Healthy Indian Cooking for Diabetes 29 July 2010
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
This is a really great book for those who love their Indian food. A variety of tasty recipes with tweaks here and there but no loss of taste, that make them really healthy for everyone, not just Diabetics. Great encouragement to cook the healthier ingredients in Indian cookery such as pulses and vegetables and include them in other dishes to lower GI.

The book is endorsed by Diabetes UK and written by authors with a good pedigree. It is packed full of healthy eating tips, such as 'How to eat Well' and choosing healthier meals in restaurants. Also, the recipes I have tried have worked well such as Chicken Tikka Chaat, Slow cooked chicken, Prawn Varuval.

A great book not only for Diabetics but others interested in eating healthy, zingey meals

I have tried looking for many healthy eating books, but most of them are written for the Western taste. Being an Indian, this book is perfect for all Indian who wants to eat healthy. The recipes are absolutely amazing as they are written by one of India' leading Chef- Sanjeev Kapoor. I liked the book so much that I order another one for my family in India. Bravo!

Bit disappointed as not a lot of vegetarian choices and effort put into it. I am Asian Vegetarian and it was only telling me what i already know.
