About the Author
Darina Allen is Ireland's favourite food ambassador. She runs the world-renowned Ballymaloe Cookery School in Ireland which she founded in 1983, and holds several cookery demonstrations for coeliacs at the school. Previous books include the award-winning 'Irish Traditional Cooking', 'A year at Ballymaloe' and 'Darina Allen's Ballymaloe Cookery Course' Darina lectures and travels extensively, and her outstanding work as both teacher and cook has placed her firmly on the international culinary map. Rosemary Kearney runs her own catering business, Rosemary & Thyme. She has a degree in Food Science and has trained as a chef at the Ballymaloe Cookery School. She now teaches annual cooking courses for coeliacs at Ballymaloe, which are regularly oversubscribed. Coeliac UK is a national charity that supports coeliacs and other patients whose quality of life can be improved by following a gluten-free diet. It is committed to provide information, educate people and promote and commission research into coeliac disease.

This is a great cookbook for anyone who eats gluten-free.
The majority of these recipes are reliably excellent. Particularly for the bread and baked recipes.
Only the crumpet recipe didn't work out so well. Still delicious just not very crumpet like.
I would particularly recommend the recipes for soda bread, tomato bread, banana bread and pancake mix.
The book is well presented and easy to follow.
A gem in the world of hit and miss gluten-free cooking.

I purchased this book after I researched quite a few for my daughter who has just been diagnosed as having coeliac disease. A lot of Gluten Free products are quite unhealthy so this seemed a good option for someone who was embarking on a coeliac regime for the very first time.
I had popped into my local WHS first and browsed through the coeliac books and thought that this one looked easy to use, using healthy but not too many fancy recipes. When first diagnosed I felt a simple cookbook was required that you would want to try out the recipes so ordered it from Amazon. Great, fast service from Amazon as I have come to expect.
My daughter has tried out some of the recipes with success and must admit that I will probably try a few myself.
It is very hard to know how to tackle everyday cooking tasks when first diagnosed but this book seems an excellent find when starting off on a gluten free diet. Any other recommendations most welcome from other readers.

I bought this for my mum as a gift and she loves it - the chicken bake is a hit and the chapters at the beginning which explain about coeliac disorder and gluten free alternatives to flour, etc.

gluten free but not diary free, sorry.
Most people who have gluten intolerance cannot also take lactose, and I noticed that in many of the book's recipes, there are dairy products, such as cheese, yoghurt, cream, etc. Read more
