A "MUST READ" for anyone interested in healthcare, 24 Feb 2004
A "MUST READ" choice for all Complementary Therapists and anyone with a long-term illness or health problem..I found it difficult to put this book down, once I started to read it. In her clearly-written book, the author takes you through Health Kinesiology step-by-step. It starts with her early quest to find a cure for her son's chronic asthma (which she was able to cure) and leads through to her decision to bring Health Kinesiology (HK) to Britain in 1987. Since then she has successfully treated several thousand clients with a wide range of illnesses and health problems. The book draws on this wealth of experience and is illustrated throughout with many fascinating case histories. Health Kinesiology has gone on to become the most successful and fastest growing of the kinesiologies, all of which are based on the familiar Touch for Health principles. (There is more information and case histories on the web site hk4health.co.uk) What struck me while reading the book was the realisation that you just can't become healthy through dosing the body up with tablets and medicines and by applying creams. At best, they simply cover up the symptoms of an underlying problem. This book illustrates the diagnostic power of kinesiology in discovering the reasons WHY the body isn't able to deal with the problem without help-- and demonstrates through case histories, the ability HK has to help people make a complete recovery. The author explains the therapy clearly from its origins in kinesiological research, through Touch for Health, to showing what goes on in a typical HK session. (The many photographs of treatment help a lot). HK uses the energy control system and meridians that form the basis of acupressure and acupuncture, but expands their use by changing that energy flow. The book explained to me why some days you feel "full of energy", but on other days you feel "drained". It is all a question of energy balance. Obvious when you think about it! Jane Thurnell-Read has taught and lectured in US and across Europe and this teaching experience shows in her clear concise writing style. The book benefits greatly from the many thought-provoking case histories, drawn from many HK practitioners. They offer a fascinating window into lives that have been changed for the better by Health Kinesiology. Overall--this book taught me a lot about the way the human body works. - It is an absorbing book for anyone interested in medicine, healthcare and complementary therapies. - For Therapists practising other skills, it is definitely in the "MUST READ" category and explains why HK is a growing therapy. - For anyone suffering from long-term health problems, it offers the prospect of better health by introducing Health Kinesiology (HK) as a potential route to recovery.
