Linda Bacon, Ph.D., earned her doctorate in physiology, specializing in weight regulation, from the University of California, Davis. She also holds graduate degrees in psychology, specializing in eating disorders and body image, and exercise science, specializing in metabolism, and has professional experience as a researcher, clinical psychotherapist, exercise physiologist and educator.Dr. Bacon is currently an associate nutritionist at the University of California, Davis and the lead investigator for a clinical research study that evaluates the Health at Every Size program, co-sponsored by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. She is also a nutrition professor in the biology department at City College of San Francisco. Additionally, she maintains a private practice, advising individuals, health care professionals and institutions on strategies for implementing the Health at Every Size program.

This book is everything I was hoping for. It shows clearly how dieting makes people fatter through proper authenticated scientific research. The research is also indexed in the back for anyone wanting to check the facts stated. It has very helpful suggestions on how to lose weight without dieting and also a useful contacts section. It is a fantastic book, and Linda Bacon is a genius to have put this together. Diet no more. This book shows all the reasons why not and why diets don`t work!
This is a great book - it's all based on scientific evidence and the studies that the author took into account are cited, but it doesn't get too technical - there's a section that gets a bit bogged down in chemicals and twin studies, but it's only a small section which you can easily skip and still get loads out of this book. Unlike most diet books, you finish reading and feel that there really are positive things you can do to improve your fitness level and diet. Some authors seem to think that it's a catastrophe if you've gained 10 lb, which can discourage people with much larger amounts they want to lose, but by contrast, this author seems to understand the problems facing people who struggle with fat. It's written in an easy style to read, and is the most positive book about dieting and weight loss that I've read for a long time (and I've read lots!). I thoroughly enjoyed reading it, and intend keep it handy to read again whenever my motivation to exercise flags.
This is a wonderful timely book which is well researched and full of insight. It confirms the personal experience of many people and provides a practical way forward in tackling weight problems.
