As a moderately experienced tarot reader and allergy sufferer, I greatly appreciate the wealth of knowledge and practical application available in this deck. The Healing Tarot is unique in that it enlightens and guides the spirit while focusing on the health of the whole individual, not just the ethereal parts. While I have many tarot friends who have the luxury of focusing sometimes solely on their spirit, I am constantly reminded of my physical condition, and have always sought spirituality as a means to health. This deck enables the reader, any reader, to divine, contemplate, and respond to not only health issues, but any issue affecting any aspect of the whole individual.
The “back to basics” cards, in their black and white medium, are anything but basic. Effectively communicating the energy of each card, even without referencing the book, they are a delight to read with or meditate on. The artwork is both carefully crafted for divinatory purposes and whimsically celebratory for aesthetic appeal. They are the kind of tarot images one would gladly frame and hang over one’s favorite armchair.
This is not to say you should ignore the book. In fact, if you are anything like me, when you get a new deck you jump straight to reading with the cards and ignore the majority of the accompanying book, looking only for the ‘meaning of the card.’ While I accomplished immediate, accurate and comprehensive answers by doing so with The Healing Tarot, it was not until I took the time to read the more thorough exploration of each card provided in the accompanying book that I found the true quality and depth of this deck. Simplifying the complicated worlds of Qabalah and Astrology with no nonsense explanations and combining them with traditional interpretations, all the while focused on wellness, The Healing Tarot book, while small, is powerful. It is not your run of the mill, card meaning guide and could be read by itself for invaluable insight and inspiration. It deals out (pun intended) intense wisdom, but somehow manages not to overwhelm the less advanced reader. (I am not an advanced reader.) All in all, The Healing the Tarot goes beyond simple divination, on a topic rarely addressed; it offers the average reader a place to hone their skill with the cards, pinpoint causes of ‘dis-ease’ in their life, question themselves, and ultimately find a path to universal wellness!
