Synopsis

This work uses handy tables to list the medicinal properties of each plant and pinpoints appropriate treatments. Rainforests contain an amazing abundance of plant life - just two and a half acres of the Amazon rainforest are believed to house approximately 900 tons of plants. What's most exciting is that scientists and researchers have only just begun to uncover the medicinal qualities of these plants - treasures of nature that offer new approaches to health and healing. "The Healing Power of Rainforest Herbs" is a valuable guide to these herbs and their uses. Detailing more than fifty rainforest plants, "The Healing Power of Rainforest Herbs" is the result of years of extensive research by naturopath, Leslie Taylor. In it, she explains the medicinal properties of each herb and the natural chemicals involved, as well as preparation instructions. The author has, also, included the history of the herbs' use by indigenous peoples and their current usage by natural health practitioners throughout the world. Helpful tables provide a quick guide for choosing the most useful plants for specific ailments.

Illustrations of plants and recipes for herbal remedies complete the wealth of information found in this resource. "The Healing Power of Rainforest Herbs" is a unique book that offers a blend of ancient and modern knowledge in an accessible reference guide. It incorporates the healing practices of shamans with scientific research for anyone seeking to discover the medicinal secrets of the rainforest.

This is a reference book that lists 73 South American herbs and describes thoroughly their properties. The index makes it easy to find herbs that might help against your particular problem. I quickly found what I needed. Enough said, I guess.

A beautiful book 16 April 2005
Format:Paperback
I am an Amazon Junkie. I also have an addiction to books on health and nutrition. I have around 50 at least and I buy one or two a week. One or two are real gems. Like "The Complete Book of Enzyme Therapy" by Dr. Anthony Cichoke, "Renewal" by Timothy J. Smith MD and "Nourishing Traditions" by Sally Fallon.

I have never been moved to write a review before however. This time though I just have to tell you to buy this beautiful book. If you are interested in natural medicine, herbs etc then this is an invaluable resource. But even if you have no current interest in these subjects - read this book and you soon will have! Leslie Taylor has a passion for her subject which just shines through in every sentence particularly on the chapter on "Rainforest Destruction and Survival". A beautiful, beautiful book.

Excellent Book on the Subject. 24 Feb 2006
By Linda E. N-Eaton - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I am an herbalist who was looking for a good book on Rain Forest Herbs without all the hype that had a least some science it in to complement information about traditional uses. Too many herbal books have either no science behind them or have such reductionist science based on faulty studies and assumptions that the information is usless. I often suspect that hype about the use of such herbs as Maca root is overblown and I needed factual information from a reliable source. I bought this book sight unseen based on some of the reviews and I was not disapointed. It combines traditional use with scientific studies and lots of information about each herb. Naturopathic Physician author Leslie Taylor needs to be congratulated for her contribution to the growing knowledge about Rain Forest Herbs: not only their uses but their preservation instead of exploitation.

A guide to over seventy rainforest botanicals and their uses 7 Jun 2005
By Midwest Book Review - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Rainforests contain hundreds of plants - over half the planet's vegetation - and for centuries tribal shamans have used these plants as health remedies. Years of research contributes to The Healing Power Of Rainforest Herbs: A Guide To Understanding And Using Herbal Medicinals, a guide to over seventy rainforest botanicals and their uses by indigenous peoples and natural health professionals alike. Chapters offer plant data summary charts, biological and clinical research, tribal uses, and plenty of technical, research-based reference material. From dosage to preparation methods and chemical information for each plant, Healing Power Of Rainforest Herbs goes far beyond the 'new age healing guide' it looks to be at first glance. Very highly recommended indeed.
