Synopsis

Attention deficit disorder (ADD) is a national health crisis that continues to grow - yet it remains one of the most misunderstood and incorrectly treated illness today. Now using breakthrough diagnostic techniques, Daniel Amen has discovered that there are six distinct types of ADD, each requiring a different treatment. With recommendations for prescription drugs, nutraceutical therapy, cognitive programming, parenting and education strategies, biofeedback, self-hypnosis, and more, Daniel Amen's revolutionary approach provides a treatment program that can lead sufferers of ADD to a normal, peaceful and fully functional life. Sufferers from ADD often say 'The harder I try, the worse it gets' This book tells them, for the first time, how to get well.

This book uses pictures of SPECT brain scans and case studies to walk you through six different types of attention deficit disorder - the presented symptoms, the scan images, diagnosis and treatment. Clearly written and easily understood, the information is well presented. Dr. Amen's book probably should not be used as a self diagnosis tool, but will give you a good working understanding of what's going on in your head, and what can be done about it - sometimes as simple as just changing your diet.

If you often think "The harder I try to concentrate, the worse it gets" then you MUST read this book and do something about it.

This book has truly changed my life and the way I think about myself - I hope that it can change yours for the better too.

Very helpful 21 April 2011
By Keith
Format:Paperback
If you are dealing with ADD or have a loved one with any form of ADD this book will help you work out some of the symptoms you are encountering.

Dr. Amen's clinic in America is far ahead of much of Europe and this book helped us to identify some of the issues which are not generally recognised yet here in mainland Europe. Germany & Austria officially don't recognise this as an adult issue.

Many people seem to know ADHD but that is only 1 of 6 versions identified in this book. Very in-depth studies as to the difference, SPECT scans showing each different type's affect on brain function and good indication of causes and cures.

He looks to dietary, medical and behaviour management to find solutions.

It's not easy reading but comprehensive.

You can do Dr. Amen's questionnaire online (Google search Dr. Amen & ADD test) first if just trying to do some basic research. The book will explain more about the online results (test also in the book).

This book is a Godsend if you are trying to muddle through with a loved one who is not correctly diagnosed and is walking in condemnation from society for not conforming to their vision of life.

interesting reading 20 July 2010
Format:Paperback
I enjoyed reading this book - it is underpinned by scientific studies (although i cannot comment on their accuracy) and a lot of what was written made sense in coming to terms and understanding how ADD affects a person. I am not sure that 'healing' ADD is possible, that it should be 'managed' but this book gives advice on how you may be able to optimise your strengths and limit ADD effects.
