This is an album you NEED in your collection. Wether you wanna call it Nu-Metal or not, there is no denying that this is an exceptional album that deserves respect. When I first listened to it I thought "hmmm, cool... RATM meets Taproot" but they really do have an unique sound, and there is not one bad song on the album, all are capable of being singles, my favourite being "Backlash". I'm pretty sure this band has split up now, which is a shame because they are so good at what they do. However you came across this album, I suggest you BUY it! I guarantee you won't regret it, plus it's better than the song "Headstrong" by Trapt, just incase you were searching for that instead, there's no need... Headstrong are better than Trapt! So buy this... NOW!

Headstrong are pretty new to me. I listened to it and the first track, 'All Of The Above' just blew me away. Great guitar and harmonies with blinding lyrics. Slightly heavier than Rage Against The Machine, they are the best new band on the scene right now. THIS IS NOT NU-METAL! This is new and encompasses all the aggresion and frustration you feel but makes you feel good! Its ok to be depressed this music is talks to you.

A New Classic 9 Mar. 2002
By "discolando" - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
Once in awhile a band drops a debut album that stands the test of time to become a classic and this looks like it might be one of those. I head read a decent amount about the band (thanks Janson!!) and decided to pick up the album after only hearing Adriana....I was completely blown away. Not since Rage's debut album have I heard a debut loaded with such intense and intelligent music as Headstrong's. Never ever sounding the same throughout the album, it runs a gamut of multiple genres and influences. One can hear some Rage in there,Matt's rap like vocals remind me of Zach and so do his screams but he also reminds me a bit of Neil Fallon from Clutch at times. The music is straight forward rock with great song structures that never get old or repetitive and everyone in the band sounds like a master of their instrument. A far cry from most nu-metal or nu-rock releases, Headstrong will surely please those who are looking for something original AND way above standard in terms of quality and replay value. Highest reccomendation.

It's a damn shame... 10 Mar. 2004
By Nick - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
You know: with wiltering rap-rock whatever the hell you want to call it bands this one was actually unique and had the ability to keep ground. It had all the proper ingredients for success; great ingenuetive, socio-political lyrcis, some kick ass jams and a badass singer. With the passion of Rage Against the Machine the intensity of Snot and sarcasm of Faith no More this band surprised the hell out of me. I usually HATE "nu-metal" acts, but this cd is great from start to finish and is a euphoric listen in a way. Well, the time has come and after one release this band is gone. This cd will be in my collection forever but it makes one wonder what this band would have accomplished had they continued. They come from an increasing scene right now: CANADA! Of all places; the North has nurtured 36crazyfists, Boysnightout and Grade and now this lovely band. I never got the pleasure to see them which is a major let-down considering that this band is probably the best band at what it does right now (or back then.). All the songs could be singles, even if this scene is dying this band was tight and though you may not know anything past the crappy song "Headstrong" this band should not go unnoticed; they deserve some respect for their short-lived career. Of course it will be that the members of this band will most likely continue in musical ways but this band is truly unique and THIS band will most likely never be again. RIP.

Finally Some New Rap/Nu- Metal 27 Mar. 2002
By "cobra97snake" - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
Im sorry but im a big fan of rap-metal.... Maybe it's because it's hard to find good rap metal these days. Hed pe and downset can't make a new album every 4 months. This cd is great, it's got the rap, the screaming, the melodies, everything to make you happy. I really like the rap voice he has. Not too many people are gifted with it(vanilla ice, other rap/metal poser bands). But the people that are Limp Bizkit(i guess). The others that have a great voice to rap is Nullset(even though they got a new singer) Downset, Taproot. I recommend this cd to anyone into the incubus/hoobastank, or Taproot/Limp Bizkit style.

A symphony with a mix! 6 Oct. 2002
By Eric - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
As loud as Snot, as funky as Jimmie's Chicken Shack, yet only as half as political as RATM. Put all those bands in a blender, and hit FRAPEE'! "Adriana", the first single as most people know, is a perfect, silky, funky, loud, debut. When I purchased this monstrosity, "Build" made "Adriana" sound even better. What a build up! I missed a chance to see these guys live at Emo's in Austin, TX. But, I'm pretty sure they've captured their live essence on the cd. Can't wait for their second album. It had better be here soon.
From out of Nowhere... A Masterpiece (4.5 STARS) 25 Mar. 2002
By JWK - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
Mark my words: 2002 is going to be a very slow year in music. With big releases by Tool, REM, Radiohead, Sevendust, and many other great bands in 2001, not much is left over for this year. So I won't be too surprised at year's end, when I'm still listening to Headstrong's debut non-stop. This will probably be (imho) the best album of 2002.
Headstrong seems to be in the right place at the right time. Rock and Roll seems to be suffering greatly at the hands of teen-boppers, boy bands, Radiohead wanna-be's, mindless metal, and dinosaur band reunions. And while the nu-metal scene has a lot of intensity and adrenaline, most of the genre's bands lack melody, originality, and note-worthy talent. All that has changed with the rap/metal/alt rock band Headstrong.
Canada has produced some fine bands, but I for one did not expect one of the finest all-around albums of the last three years to come from there. Canadian rockers like Default and Nickelback are digging up grunge roots that seem to be typically from the past. But Headstrong looks to the future: intense, heavy guitars, screaming vocals, and insanely cool harmony.
The highlight "Swing Harder" illustrates well the album's theme and the overall aggressive nature of the band's sound. The opener "All of the Above" is a fantastic lesson of mixing melody with rap and nu-metal screaming. Slipnot and others could learn something here. Disagreeing with the first two reviewers, I think "Adrianna" is the perfect single and one of the best songs on the list. "Open Season" is based much more on hip-hop and it works well with that song, but on others, such as the sub-par "Hoodies and Hoods," the music seems more forced than most of the naturally flowing tracks. "Inside Joke" and "Do What You Feel Like" seem a lot like a light-hearted RATM, though the melodies are much more prevalent than any of Rage's stuff. If you like any of the modern metal or any agressive rock, you'll fall in love with Headstrong. One of the best albums I've ever heard.
