These tracks pull you into their unique world with a concoction of morphing acidic basslines, oddly catchy beats that are incredibly funky and complex and strange voice samples. Each track is distinct but all fit together extremely well.
The opener, "Rope a Dope" draws you in with a dark soundscape before a foot-tapping progressive 303 line assaults your senses, whereas "Flash Pan" delivers on sheer acid house punch, and "Whack the Toad" is grungy, grinding and relentless. The latter half of the EP goes into stranger, and to my mind at least, more interesting territory: "Maraskoosh" has brilliantly constructed rhythmic layers, "Mockery Maker" has an intricate, creeping, synth texture atop some seriously funky percussion, the final track "Don't Send Me Away" caps the sense of the paranoid with an unyielding, heart-pounding synth line and fat beats.
Chunky but subtle, harsh but beautiful, this EP is somewhat of a masterstroke! Thoroughly recommended.
