Following on from his bestselling study of violence, THE FOOTBALL FACTORY, John King considers Britain`s other obsession-sex. Formed in the chemical mists of New year`s Eve, The Sex Division sees the once=sacred act of procreation at its most material, as five men devise system based on the sexual act. In this lagerosoaked league, the most that women can offer man is 4 points-unless, that is, she leaves her handbag unattended. . .
From its base in the asset-stripped, emotionally castrated 90s, HEADHUNTERS shows the dreams of The Sex Division members breaking through the heavy media cloud of anorexic pin-ups and paedophile fashion. A missing brother, prophetic visions, a love affair, and tit-for-tat confrontation draw the characters out into the open-revealing the men behind the machismo, their need for mutual respect, and their recognition of the hidden or suppressed affinities.

I know a few ex-hoolies and they say it is the perfect insight into what happens before and after a game, whether it be home or away. I dont know if its changed days or we, the public dont see it going on, I have been to Stamford Bridge on many ocassions, including the time period ranging from The Football Factory to present and have never saw any violence firsthand that is mentioned, although I have been assured many times that it does exist, just not as publicised as it was back in the 80's.
It is a cracking read and I recommend the other John King books, even if you dont have an interest in the subject, or even support Chelsea or England, it is a rivetting read from start to finish. The tales might depict 'bad men', but you feel you can relate to them, they have morals and scruples and a gentlemens code, just on a different level but still the same.
Go on have read, you will be hooked.
The characters of the Sex Division reflect on the social exploits of the British nation. This initiates the reader into the story as most people can refer to the lifestyles of these extravagent characters.
In my opinion the insight into the lifes of Carter, Balti, Harry, Will and Mango allows for a very enjoyable read. The ending is a great way to summarise the fortunes of the world we live in. Recommended!!
