Transatlantic intrigue,
This review is from: Head Shot (Paperback)
Every Skinner novel has a number of sub plots running simultaneously and Head Shot is no different in that respect. The death of his in-laws sees Skinner heading to the US to make arrangements as only he can. Meanwhile back in Edinburgh life moves on and many of the familiar characters emerge with leading roles as they progress through the ranks of Lothian and Borders Police. The Atlantic Ocean divides the main plots within the book but in his usual short chapter style Quintin Jardine keeps the action running at fever pitch. As you might expect, although up to his neck in dealing with the death of his in-laws, Skinner still has a hand in the management of the storylines based back home in Edinburgh. In this latest instalment of Skinner's career Quintin Jardine increases the prominence of several of the "lower ranks" with Mario Maguire especially growing in stature and displaying much of ther guile of his DCC. I found this book a great read and almost un-put-downable finishing in record time. I see that I now have to wait until December for the next Jardine novel and switch back to Oz Blackstone mode. Well down Quintin - here's to the next instalment!

A very exciting ride!,
This review is from: Head Shot (Bob Skinner Mysteries) (Paperback)
One of the best books in the Bob Skinner series (and I have read all the previous novels). Very fast paced and extremely exciting. And it ends on a cliff hanger so I must sign off now and order the next novel in the series !

Cracking good detective thriller,

This review is from: Head Shot (Bob Skinner Mysteries) (Paperback)
Quintin Jardine's writing style has strengthened over the years and "Head Shot" is taut throughout with strong intriguing storylines and good dialogue. Both story threads are compelling and the author is clearly enjoying the conspiracy theory he brews up with the US story; meanwhile the Edinburgh story is chilling to the core. Perhaps the endings of both stories are a little over the top (though not as extreme as some of the other Skinner books), but the book is compelling throughout and hugely enjoyable. One of the best "Skinner" books.
