Maybe it's because I've just finished reading a book about the heroine marrying her sister's ex-husband why I didn't like this one?
Beth is headmistress of a school in Devon, one that has just been favourably inspected by Ofsted. At the peak of her career, comfortably single and with enough money to enjoy herself, life looks good. In theory. But with the arrival of Beth's teenage niece Emma - sent to Dawlish by her parents to recover from glandular fever, whilst they escape to Italy - all hell breaks loose.
Within days Emma has set her sights on the only eligible batchelor in the neighbourhood, and organic farmer name Conrad who also happens to be a fading rock star - and an idol of Beth's own teenage years. Beth's independent lifestyle is turned upside down as Emma plays her dangerous game of seduction. And Conrad, meanwhile, seems to have bitten off more than he can chew......
Conrad is the hero and Beth the heroine of this story.
Beth just came across as a dormat. When Emma crashed her car (bearing in mind Beth told her not to drive her car AND Beth didn't know that Emma only had a provisional licence) - what does Beth do? Nothing? Un-be-lieve-able.
Conrad fancied Emma at first. Emma is 19 and he is 39. Once, when he visted Emma, she has on a dressing gown with nothing underneath - hint of cleavage, nipples at alert. He gets an hard on and Beth notices. This is the guy that Beth gets with in the end! By the time Conrad kisses Emma I gave up on the book. All I could think of was that when he marries Beth (which is where the story is heading), Emma would would have snogged her uncle (lol).
This story didn't work for me!
