Product Description

On a trip to Dublin, Chris Harrison falls head over heels in love with Daniela, an Italian girl with eyes the colour of Guinness - and he follows her home. He abandons his previous life for LA DOLCE VITA, with its luscious foods and sun-drenched vistas. Among olive groves and cobblestone lanes, Chris takes us on a moving, insightful and often hilarious journey into the heart of southern Italy...

Oh how true... 21 Oct 2009
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I am married to a man from this part of Italy (albeit a city boy), and I was nodding in recognition on almost every page at the descriptions of how an italian family works, how italians view life, law and parking and how frustrating that is for a 'normal westerner'.

I loved this story and I would also love to read about what happend next, soon please.

The only thing which upset me a little was his description of Lecce. I haven't seen the modern Lecce and the bureaucracy there, only the old Baroque city, and what a city that is. If anyone visits this part of Italy, you must go to Lecce.

Funtastico! 11 May 2009
Format:Paperback
Chris Harrison's work is not only highly entertaining but a real insight into what life in Italia is like. He describes in accurate and amusing detail the idiosycrosis of Italians and how they relate to each other and what every day life is like there. The love story between him and Daniela (smile when you say her name) is heart-warming and addictive. I can't wait for his next book so I can read about what happened next!

One of the best things is that the book is based in Puglia - not Tuscany like a gazillion other stories about life in Italia. To me Puglia is the raw almost untouched Italia and worthy of a trip if you have never been there before. Make sure you read this book before going (and eat at Nonna Tetti's restaurant in Lecce!).

I loved it and couldn't put it down. Thanks Chris!

This is an exceptional book! Chris Harrison has written a superb story that is at once romantic (the wooing and winning of Daniela), satirical (of Italians and Italy) and affectionate (of Italians and Italy).

Linguistically it is a tour de force - with lyrical passages of great beauty, outrageous puns and a more insightful and reflective style than other Italian travel memoirs I have read which merely scratch the surface of Italian life.

I hope no one decribes this hilarious book as 'unputdownable': I put it down regularly in order to savour the elegance and rhythms of Harrison's prose. A masterpiece. Watch this name.
