More About the Author

Award-winning Amazon bestseller Colleen Thompson writes stories that explore how love can kill, and how it can also empower us to seek healing and justice. From her fast-paced contemporary romantic thrillers to her sweeping historical romances (written under the pseudonym Gwyneth Atlee) she puts the reader in the heart of the story... when she's not busy exploring remote corners of her adopted home state of Texas, working with her rescue dogs, or speaking and teaching on the craft of writing.

Format: Mass Market Paperback
Beth Ann Decker's life changed with a terrible accident. She was in a car with three other fellow cheerleaders, and they were hit by another car. Her friends were killed, and she was left crippled and scarred. What was really scarred was her whole life. What followed was endless surgeries, endless days of physical therapy and the endless pity of the small Texas town that couldn't seem to let go of the terrible memory.

Now years later, Beth Ann works as a hospice nurse, easing the final days of the terminally ill. But tragedy comes to call again, sending Beth Ann to deal with the grief of the present and the past.

The driver of the original accident, Mark Jessup, also survived the crash. He's now a rich businessman and a single parent. Mark returns with his son, to the small town of Eudena to care for his failing father. It's not a joyful homecoming. Mark and his father never got along, and after that fateful night when three cheerleaders died, his father washed his hands of Mark. See Mark not only caused the death of three young women, one of them was his sister.

Fate comes full circle when Beth Ann is sent to help ease the final days of Mark's father. Beth Ann had once held a crush for Mark, but all the memories¯good and bad¯crash in on her as Mark opens the door. Worse, she is sad that he sees before him a woman who is less than perfect. Only, Marks sees the woman beneath.

In a small town were memories are long and grievances are never forgotten, the past arises once more to haunt Mark and Beth Ann. Someone has decided that the time for payment has fallen due for past sins.

Thompson gives a realistic portrayals of people whose lives changed on a flip of the coin, of people struggling to build a future from the rubble of their past. She weaves the small town mentality, suspense and romance into a heady mix, which keeps the reader spellbound.

Very highly recommended.

Not impressed at all AND I paid for this so even less so. Whoever formatted it for the Kindle (and I use that term very loosely) needs stringing up. It looks like a load of photocopied pages and is just a mess. Even my Kindle "read" it wrong because on pages I made notes on it didn't get the words right because it's impossible to read !!!
I got to 15% and deleted it.
There were random gaps and hyphens put into words like Pe te and Al- ways and set-tled.Then the passage "His mother and IShe's a fine woman".
Just a real untidy mess that shouldn't be on sale in its current incarnation. Take note, Amazon, and start checking what you're putting out there.
The cover I thought was lovely and that was what first drew me to the book. Just a shame somebody took so little care with the Kindle version.

In two minds with this book…it’s a ok read, but not enough to make it remarkable.
I felt it for Mark Jessup and rooted for him & Beth Ann to work it out, but with the backdrop of the Old Southern way of living & rules it was hard, of course it’s the basis of the storylines. I did keeping thinking TV drama with one, as there is ways the characters can be played up a bit. Overall since there are secrets to be revealed it would keep a reader interested, but not a book I would highly recommend.

This was the first book I have read by this author and although it was not a bad story, I'm not sure I would bother with others as I have read better. It did keep me interested until the end so I suppose that makes it okay

I can't really remember the book, and that's after re-reading the synopsis! Obviously didn't leave much of an impression on me.

A very predictable story line , usual love and lust with a bit of violence thrown in for good measure. Nothing new . I don't think I would bother reading anything else by this, author. Ok read to pass a wet afternoon.
