Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds: The 2010 Collector's Editions

Biography

Maybe there’s just a feeling something is missing. It’s hard to pin down, difficult to articulate; a matter of lying in bed at night, kept awake by a mysterious yearning for more Wallace Stevens quotes set to low-down combustible grooves. Maybe it’s a sudden desire to hear words like “myxamatoid” and “spraddle” deployed in popular music instead of the ... Read more in Amazon's Nick Cave Store

4.0 out of 5 stars One to tug at the heart strings 6 Jun 2003
By A Customer
Format:Audio CD
Taken from the album, 'Nocturama', 'He Wants You' is a remarkable song. I heard it played on the radio and was immediately struck by its haunting quality and the wonderful, oak-deep voice of Nick Cave. You'll want to play it over and over again. I would have given ths five stars, were it not for the inclusion of another track off the album, 'Babe, I'm On Fire'. Radically different from the single, I found myself wondering if I was listening to the same artist. Perhaps, Nick Cave's diverse style is an acquired taste, but I found 'Babe, I'm On Fire' a difficult track to digest after the superb single.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Songs from a Good Album 4 April 2004
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
The Album 'Nocturama' wasn't the greatest of Nick Cave's career and needed a couple of listens before it made this Nick Cave fan not want to hurt someone. Once I got used to it, it was great, especially the fifteen minute 'Babe, I'm On Fire' which was cut down terribly for this single. 'He Wants You' remains much the same as the album version, still a nice piano piece.

'Little Ghost Song' is not an earlier version of 'Right Out Of Your Hand' as one reviewer suggested, but rather a mix-up of the music from 'Still In Love' and the vocal tracks of 'Right Out of Your Hand'. That's why it sounds a little disjointed and why the title seems odd. The Nick Cave site says: Of Little Ghost Song, Nick Cave says "[it] was a happy accident in the studio, where the slave reels misaligned and began playing some elements of two songs at the same time. We were dumbstruck at the beauty of it".

Everything Must Converge is a good song, although a bit slow.

All in all, worth the money if you don't own Nocturama and even if you do.

4.0 out of 5 stars good b-sides 22 Aug 2003

"He Wants You" and "Babe I'm on Fire" are edited versions of the album cuts from "Nocturama." The latter is significantly chopped down from its ten-minute length; depending on your taste for the song, that's either a good thing or a bad one. The real reason to buy this single is the b-side material. "Little Ghost Song" is very similar to "Right Out of Your Hand," and is probably an earlier version of that song. Since "Right Out of Your Hand" is my favorite song on "Nocturama," I enjoyed hearing this version. "Everything Must Converge" is excellent, and in my opinion should have been put on the album.
