Becca Gibbs is the Vice President of Vic's Pretzels by day and Satan's right-hand woman by night. True, Satan isn't all fire and brimstone. Becca Gibb is a Rivka, created by Satan to do his will on earth. Unlike the majority of the Rivka ranks, however, Becca is neither an adoring sycophant, nor intent on evil herself - in fact, her main activity comprises escape attempts from Satan's rule. This ongoing rebellion does, of course, make her Satan's favourite and most entertaining minion.
Meanwhile, meet Nick Rawlings. Descendent of the near-invincible Markku race, who famously escaped Satan's rule only to be killed in their sleep, he's just been given an ultimatum: kill Satan or your sister dies.
He needs help, and the obvious place to find it is with the Rivka rebel, Becca. From the moment they meet, there's a spark. He, passionate and she, as cool as ice, they are emotional opposites - and yet a deal is struck: Becca will help him save his sister, if he will help her escape Satan.
This is a fun, light read, with an enjoyably complex cast of characters and narratives. The romance comes a close second to the fast-moving plot (perhaps in part due to Nick's character, which suffers slightly in comparison to Becca's more interesting subtleties), but despite this there is convincing warmth between the pair that carry the story forward nicely. It's a bit like an episode of 'Charmed' - the lead characters' romance is well formed and enjoyable, but the cool demons and battles to rule the world are what really keep the action going.

Nick Rawlings thinks he's the last of the Markku, a legendary army created by Satan. When his own Grandfather led a rebellion against the Leader of Hell, the Markku discovered a way to sustain their own life forces without the use of Satan's; however their liberation proved short. In retaliation Satan created the Rivka, superior warriors without the battle weakness and vulnerability to gold the Markku possessed and pretty much wiped them out. Now Nick's younger sister is caught in a life threatening situation and only one act can save her; the death of Satan. A vow to his father prevents Nick from committing the deed himself; however he may be able to sweet talk one of Satan's most powerful and deadly minions into helping.
Becca Gibb, Satan's most valued Rivka is determined to break free of her creator's control but unfortunately fails miserably; learning that no Rivka has ever survived freedom from Satan. Recruited by Nick Rawlings to help save his sister, the pair find themselves deeply attracted to each other; however Nick has to kill Satan (resulting in the death of Becca) whilst Becca is obliged to take out any threat against her master. Now add to this mess Theresa the dragon (from "Must Love Dragons"), Becca's new Rivka apprentice Paige Darlington (who may well be next in line for Becca's job and an innocent to boot), Iris (ex-Guardian of the Goblet of Eternal Youth) attempting to convert Satan to good with the help of her purgatory women's support group and Satan Jr's rescue from his freezer prison.
I loved this book's prequels "Date Me Baby One More Time" and "Must Love Dragons" and have to say that "He Loves Me, He Loves Me Hot" is my most favourite so far in this paranormal romance series.... Read more ›
