Book Description

29 April 2005
Marketing exec Lucy Cunningham is thrilled when her firm lands the Palm Club account. The campaign concept for Miami's hottest fitness club was Lucy's idea: Take one fitness challenged woman, put her in front of TV cameras and into the hands of the club's top personal trainer, Theo Redmond. And there's a big cash reward for each pound shed. It seems like a brilliant idea-until Lucy gets picked to be the guinea pig. It's obvious she needs to drop the pounds, but the idea of letting it all hang out in front of some Malibu Ken jock has her choking on her Milk Duds before she even begins! After one meeting, Theo knows Lucy will be his toughest client-and one of the most unforgettable women he'll ever meet. Smart-mouthed and stubborn, it's clear she isn't fond of marching to anyone's drumbeat but her own. But she shocks Theo by rising to the challenge like a pro. And he finds his heart in jeopardy long before Lucy starts to slim down and turn heads. As Lucy sweats her way into a whole new life, things start to heat up between her and Theo. But trust doesn't come easily for either of them. They've both been burned by romance in the past. Now Lucy and Theo are about to discover that appearances can be deceiving-and in the end, true love lies somewhere between pizza and Pilates...

TAKE A CHANCE ON ME
"Donovan has a real talent for painting hilarious word pictures that are pure gold. Take a Chance on Me is unquestionably one of the funniest, hottest books I've read this year."--The Oakland Press
"Comic sharpness...the humorous interactions among Thomas, Emma, and Emma's quirky family give the book a golden warmth as earthy as its rural Maryland setting. But there are also enough explicit erotic interludes to please readers who like their romances spicy."-Publishers Weekly
"Donovan blends humor and compassion in this opposites attract story. Sexy and masculine, Thomas fills the bill for the man of your dreams. Emma and Thomas deserve a chance at true love. Delightfully entertaining, Take a Chance on Me is a guaranteed good time."-Old Book Barn Gazette

"Impossible to put down...Susan Donovan is an absolute riot. You're reading a paragraph that is so sexually charged you can literally feel the air snapping with electricity and the next second one of the characters has a thought that is so absurd...that you are laughing out loud. Susan D

5.0 out of 5 stars sweeter than milk duds!!! 27 Jun 2007
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
when i first read the synopsis for this story i thought that it sounded different and great - a woman pledges to lose 100 pounds with a diet and personal trainer for a makeover show that her advertising firm is handling. for each pound she loses she receives $1000 as does her trainer. she needs the money to set up her own firm. - As you can see the great and different storyline actually includes a heroine who is supremely different to the general stereotype that they are beautiful, slim and sure of themselves. Lucy is a character that you feel for instantly and love just for agreeing to do this - its televised too!

the book goes through the months charting Lucy's journey from being an overweight, unsure woman unlucky in love to soemone else entirely. of course, it just wouldnt be a susan donovan book without romance and that comes in the form of Theo, her personal trainer, (or as one character calls him, Theo-dorable!). he is also a charcter with that instant likeability factor and as we understand why he needs the money we feel for him too and almost long for these two to get together. from the back of the book i first thought that it sounded a bit shallow, the man only falling in love with the woman when she has lost weight but we find out it isnt like that at all.

if you like romance, humour and an ending that just leaves you smiling read this book - a page turner indeed.

What a fantastic story. Light hearted, funny and with a genuinely believable character. Perfect book to be curled up with when you need a bit of light fun that doesn't get too serious.

4.0 out of 5 stars Lovely feel good book 14 May 2013

This was a classic feel good boom. Boy meets girl, fall out, make up, happy ever after. I liked the added weight element but would have liked to hear more about that journey - she lost the first part of the weight so quickly with little mention of how hard that diet and exercise must have been. Nice book to read though :/ and pass the time with

I've always been a fan of the trashy girly books, and I adored this one. It was sweet and gentle, but hot as well. I loved the heroine, she was strong and feisty but also kind. Read more
