Editorial Reviews
Captivating, entertaining, and downright funny, this book will keep you reading until the satisfying ending. Unique characters capture your heart and have you rooting for them from the beginning. Gabby St. Claire is truly a breath of fresh air. (Susan Sleeman The Christian Suspense Zone)

Christy Barritt created one lovable and unique character. Readers will fall in love with Gabby from page one with her laugh out loud scenes and sarcastic humor. This mystery was fun to read as well as to solve. Up until the very end, I wasn't too sure who the real suspect was in the book. I'm not sure if Gabby St. Claire will morph into a book series, but I'm sure readers will want to meet her again at future crime cleaning scenes. (Tyora Moody Faithwebbin)

If you like murder mysteries and suspense with a chick-lit feel, you'll want to read this one! (Michelle Sutton

"The next time you're temped to watch CSI reruns, read this book instead! Spunky, sassy Gabby St. Claire sparkles in this new series. She'll keep you turning the pages." (Siri Mitchell, bestselling author)

"In this witty novel, chick lit meets mystery in the show-tune singing Gabby, creating a fun whodunit where you just don't know who killed the woman or which guy you like for the heroine. There's the changeable Detective Parker or the sweet guy-next-door-with-a-secret Riley for Gabby, and who but the would-be Senator husband would want the murder victim dead? Hazardous Duty will take you on a ride through twists, turns, quirks, acorn brownies, and spiritual questions that keep Gabby guessing. She's a character you're guaranteed to love, and the plot is entertaining and fast paced." (Roseanna White Christian Review of Books)

4.0 out of 5 stars Hilarious, Off-Beat Comedic Mystery 20 Feb. 2015
By Ian
Format:Kindle Edition
“Whistling a tune from Fiddler on the Roof, I used my tweezers to work a piece of Gloria Cunningham’s skull out of the sky blue wall.” I’ve got to be honest with you, I live for snarky opening one liners like that. All the better if the rest of the book flows that way, as this one did. That’s my definition of a real winner. But I’m partial to a hefty dose of humor infusing my drama, without necessarily overtaking it. Think the Lethal Weapons franchise, or the movie Fargo, and you’ll understand what I mean. Though, sticking with more appropriate book references, suffice to say this is a comedic mystery, belonging to a rather venerated and well-established sub-genre under the even more overly competitive umbrella of suspense/thriller/mystery writing. I don’t envy anyone trying to stick out from the pile of books generated each year in this category, and I certainly can’t blame anyone for going sub-genre as a defensive maneuver. Niche worked for lawyers when there started to be too many of them, so why not?

The approach taken here: coming at a mystery from the crime scene cleanup crew angle. Not too many folks think to do that; that much blood and gore can be a turnoff. But, in capable hands, you can’t argue that it’s a smart play, because less competition means a chance to corner the market. And if it turns out someone hates the book, it’s not like they can say, “I read scores of these books, so I ought to know good from bad.” Nope, buddy, you surely don’t and you surely can’t. Again, smart.

Pound for pound, I’ve read some comedic mysteries that were even more packed with belly laughs, which is why I went with 4 stars on this one, but it’s quite good.

4.0 out of 5 stars Well-written 14 July 2015
By Aletheuon TOP 500 REVIEWER

Gabby is a crime-scene cleaner who is pretty overqualified for her job. What she really wants to do is to finish her degree and be involved in the forensic side of criminal investigation, but in the meantime she has a shrewd mind, a determined attitude and a sharp sense of the ridiculous, despite her difficult circumstances. When she finds her friend dead, she is convinced the police have arrested the wrong person and she risks life and limb to put the right person behind bars, finding new friendship and faith along the way.
This is a really well-written book, not a quality one always finds in Christian books, and the characters are well-drawn, whether heroes or villains. They have struggles and imperfections, and they learn - always a sign of a good writer. I found the story absorbing and warmed to the heroine, with her stubbornness, honour and humour. I would like to read more in this series.

3.0 out of 5 stars Didn't spot the "christian fiction" 6 April 2015
By Galning
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Like others, I suspect, I didn't spot the words "Christian fiction" on the end of the book title. If I had I would never have tried it.

The book is amusing and fairly nicely written - but the witnessing (which increased after the halfway mark just didn't sit right. It just felt like it was shoe horned in.

The other reason I won't be trying the series again though is the character that's got the mop of red headed curls that has men falling over themselves because she's "independent". A cliché too far for me.

4.0 out of 5 stars "What you see is what you get" 1 Aug. 2015
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Working as a crime scene cleaner is a dirty job but someone has to do it. Gabby St Claire not only attempts to clean up the blood and gore, but the case too in this murder mystery. The writing is above average and the characters are well drawn, and as we're in the Christian fiction section then everything is 'muted' in the personal relationships and violence department. If you like to step away from reality for a few hours to read a 'squeaky clean' impression of life, then this will be your thing. You will come to no harm, I promise.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fabulously funny 12 Oct. 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I'd never heard of Christy Barritt before so really didn't know what to expect with this book but I absolutely loved it. The characters are interesting and it's nice to have a lead female character who you would actually like to have as a friend. Although some parts are a bit far fetched(can you actually post a pipe bomb through the postal system) I thought the story was fun and I really rooted for Gabby. I'll definitely be following up on the next of Gabby's adventures.

4.0 out of 5 stars Stick with it 30 Sept. 2014
By D Hill
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This was an unusual book in that whilst I really wanted to get into the story it was hard going at times. I stuck with the book and was was glad I persevered and would certainly buy the next ones in the series. With any new series, it often takes time to get to know the main characters but I think the wait was worth it.The story came to an excellent conclusion.
Try it for yourself
