Jochum was a conductor of the generation of Böhm and Klemperer, but there is nothing old-fashioned or heavy-handed about these performances, which fizz with life, joy and vivacity. Jochum always gives the music an unerring sense of direction and purpose - listen to the beautifully expressive introduction to no. 101, and to the delightfully lively way the exposition is launched, to get a sense of the qualities of this set. Very strongly recommended - one of the best sets of the London Symphonies ever recorded (and recorded in London!).
