5.0 out of 5 stars Time Captains - Back At The Helm ! 27 April 2004
By A Customer
I have been a lifelong fan of Hawkwind and had long awaited the release ofthis DVD. A year in the making I was expecting something rather special. Iwasn't to be disappointed. This DVD is simply stunning. Captures the bandon top form in Newcastle. I have bought numerous Hawkwind DVD's before.None of them compare to this one. The sound is in 5.1 and is one of thebest sounding concert DVD's I have heard truly capturing the moment. Thepicture quality is second to none. Unlike some other Hawkwind DVD's on themarket at the moment. A really good buy and I am really pleased with mypurchase. Their rendition of Assasins of Allah is one of the bestperformances of this track I have heard. A really indepth interview withDave Brock covering the complete history of the band up to present with afew revelations I might add. All in all a masterpiece and a must for alltime captains everywhere.

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth Every Penny.. 25 April 2004

I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of this DVD. Good sound andphotography, excellent picture. Songs mainly from the '70s, only marredslightly by Arthur Brown's antics and vocals of varying quality, sometimesforgetting the correct words (stick to "Fire" Arthur).
All songs are played masterfully with Arthur singing Bob Calvert's"Aerospaceage Inferno", a version quite different from the original. Ismirked when Dave Brock referred to "Out of the Shadows" as an 'old' song, proving that time is only relative, as its one of the most recent on theDVD.
The highlights are "Hurry on Sundown" followed by Tim Blake's"Lighthouse", Lemmy's "The Watcher" played "Motorhead" style, "Assassinsof Allah" with Alan Davey at his very best, and "Earth Calling" aka "YouShouldn't Do That..." all faultless performances, no coincidence thatArthur doesn't feature in any of these...he returns later on to recite"Sonic Attack" interlaced with "Spacebrock", and of course "SilverMachine" to finish off.
The band gets better with time and I'm amazed at how young Huw looks, considering he features on HW's first album in 1970!
Psychedelic Space Rock rules.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best video record of Hawkwind bar none! 28 July 2004
With crystal clear sound and picture (unlike many previous releases), special performances from HW luminaries such as Huw Lloyd Langton and Tim Blake, plus Arthur Brown adding a touch of lunacy, this is Hawkwind at their most powerful, and you're right there in the best seat in the house with surround sound. Again and again.
A top notch DVD and a MUST for any Hawkwind fan.

5.0 out of 5 stars Spacerock at its best 2 Nov 2004
By D. Bank
About time! Finally a Hawkwind DVD thats not just a copy of an old VHS release. The main point of note, is the sound quality. Its simply awesome in 5.1 surround. You feel like your there in the centre of the crowd. The band sound so tight and totally professional better than they ever have.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent! 21 April 2011

The 141-minute running time stated on the back of the dvd refers to the concert and the Dave Brock 60 minute interview combined.... so the length of the actual show is about 80 minutes. Picture and sound quality (5.1 Surround) is great but it would have been nice to have it all in wide screen instead of full frame. Arthur Brown joins the band as guest front man for a handful of songs and it's a treat to watch a bona fide British eccentric leaping around the stage wearing gold-lamé Ali Baba pants. All in all, this show (taped at the Newcastle Opera House) left me wanting more.. and that can't be a bad thing. The guys are showing their age a little... but aren't we all?? Great Stuff!
