Product Description

Review

An excellent read so clear and well laid out that you can digest it in just a day and retain most of what you read. I recommend it warmly to all those interested in the UK economy but the book is not blind to events in the rest of the world. (The Times Higher Education Supplement )

The authors, themselves once industry insiders, write in a style that is short on sentiment and substantiate what they write with hard facts. (Mortgage Finance Gazette )

I have yet to read a more devastating analysis of relationships between chief executives and investment banks, said Richard Donkin in the FT. Everyone concerned with the future health of corporations should read this book. (Money Week, March 2004 )

Richard Donkin, The Financial Times, 15th Jan, 2004

"'Having Their Cake' is made all the more effective for the corporate experience of the authors"

Opened a whole new world of insight into issues that had me puzzled for a long time. If you have a pension, mortgage, shares or work for a large British company, read the book and find out what is going on behind the scenes!

The central theme of the book, the gradual destruction of UK Plc,for the benefit of a very few is a critical theme of our time. More evidence comes from the weekend papers with reports of problems at BAe and the sale overseas of Group 4 and the concerns being expressed by the fsa regarding the insurance industry.
The book paints a picture, from first hand experience,of the decay in the system of corporate governance and the unhealthy and self serving relationships that lie behind this. The case study serves to illustrate the issues that need to be managed for success and brings to life the real issues that goes beyond theory and speculation.
The book ends on a positive note and makes recommendations for the future that approach the problem in a systemic way, it does not however underestimate the degree of difficulty of msking such changes.
This book is essential reading for all CEO's and for those who have a responsibilty for the governance of our industry and markets.
