High energy folk,

Best appreciated live ('natch), but as with Flook's other CDs this one has had our family (2x 35year olds, 1xsix year old and 1xfour year old) all jigging round the sitting room. They're extremely accomplished technically (witness John Joe Kelly's ability to fascinate with a bodhran solo for heaven's sake - something that just shouldn't work), but they have a fantastic joie de vivre that keeps shining through. If you've already got one of their other CDs, and aren't an addict, this one mayn't add much to your collection. But if you've not got any Flook, or just can't get enough, Haven is well worth it.

A tonic for the spirit,
By A Customer

B. hell this band are good! Live they are so hot, and this translates onto all of their studio albums. 'Haven' is the third of 3 very fine studio albums although keeping within the Flook formula. These people makes flutes and whistles sound cool and exciting. While a lot of folk music is introspective and turgid, Flook's music is energised, joyful and uoplifting..even the slower numbers. When they get into the jigs and reels you cant help but move your bod and whirl around like some crazed dervish. This is folk music for people who like folk and for people who generally dont like folk. For those who dont like it, put aside your prejudices for a mo' and listen to this album or the other two, 'Flatfish' and 'Rubai'. If you ever feel a bit down, just whack this in the CD player and I'll guarantee you'll forget all your woes for the following 40 mins or so.

This is a brilliant album. It's traditional but so good that it extends beyond the limits of style and form. The bodhrán features and drives the music along, but never dominates. Wonderful!!
