Home is where the heart is.

Architect Morgan Dane has always lived according to a plan, crossing off her achievements one by one. But when she's offered her dream job-the restoration of historic Angels Landing Plantation on beautiful Cavanaugh Island-Morgan's life takes an unexpected turn.

Carpenter Nathaniel Shaw once took a big chance on commitment-and lost. Needing the healing comforts of home, he returns to Haven Creek to join the family business. Nothing in the small town has changed-except for Morgan Dane. The wallflower he knew in high school has grown into a beautiful woman . . . and stirs feelings Nate isn't sure he's ready for.

Together Nate and Morgan find a happiness neither could have predicted. But when secrets from the past come to light, their budding relationship is threatened. Will they play it safe, or risk their hearts to build a life together?

4.0 out of 5 stars Low Country-High Drama 31 May 2013

I am a fan of Rochelle Alers. Her work that centers around the Gullah communities is just one of the facets of her talent as a writer. I have read Sanctuary Cove and Angels Landing which are prequels to Havens Creek (in my Opinion). Havens Creek picks up where Angels Landing ends. Excellent storyline that depicts the two protagonists who overcome personal issues to come together. I recommend that you read the 3 novels. You will definitely enjoy!!Sanctuary Cove (A Cavanaugh Island Novel)Angels Landing (A Cavanaugh Island Novel)

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Reading 5 Jun 2013
By LAS Reviewer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Kindle Edition
Enticing and a pleasure to read, Haven Creek invites the reader in and entertains so well one doesn't want to leave.

A unique Gullah culture steeped in generations of nurturing makes Haven Creek on Cavanaugh Island a captivating place. As the reader is immersed in the juicy gossip, scrumptious food, old-south environment, and daily living along with the hopes and desires of the characters the rest of the world recedes.

Morgan Dane is a strong heroine who wants to give and receive love but is able to stand on her own. She knows her own self-worth without a man in her life. The love in her heart that has nestled down inside since she was fourteen-years-old bides its time while all kinds of events in life deny its coming into its own. "Patience is bitter, but its fruit is sweet." Morgan declares marriage and children must be postponed until she's well established in her career. When Nathaniel Shaw (Nate) returns to Haven Creek devastated from a high profile marriage and divorce, Morgan has to reevaluate and decide what is possible for her future. Old hurts from school years still fuel her inhibitions with men and have led her to say she will never marry a boy from Cavanaugh Island.

The talented Nathaniel Shaw comes home a wealthy man with a strong, reliable work ethic, but he is emotionally crippled by his distrust of women. His step-mother and his ex-wife did a real number on him. He makes no secret of his intentions to never marry again. But Morgan stirs "licentious fantasies" in Nate. His loyalty and generosity are strong threads in this tapestry of a tale.

The side stories abound letting the reader see into the lives of the many secondary characters. They enrich the lives of Nate and Morgan. But, Rochelle Alers' special writing style helps the reader enjoy the secondary characters and to relate to them in compelling ways. Some of the short back stories about them help the reader recall events in previous books in this series.

Haven Creek is a part of a series but stands alone beautifully. It lures the reader and invites in to stay a while with intriguing characters. It is a gentle moving story that lets love find its way through the tangles and troubles of life and the flaws of characters. It is a celebration of the unique Gullah culture.

Haven Creek is set in the low country of South Carolina with an ambience that Ms. Alers shows the reader in exquisite fashion with her realistic descriptions. It gives the reader a warm welcome and entertains with subtle, ever-changing, ever-maturing emotions that lead to a happy-ever-after.

4.0 out of 5 stars A History in Need of Restoration! 31 May 2013
By Viviane Crystal - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback
Morgan Dane is a sharp, skilled, professional architect who's landed a job to restore historic Angels Landing Plantation. As she left her family's business to do this, some in the town aren't happy with her forwardness. But Morgan knows what she wants, that is until she meets a carpenter, Nat (Nathaniel) Shaw. She wants to hire him to help her with the restoration project and wants to keep it purely business with no relationship problems that will spoil the business side of it. Morgan has lost a former love to another woman and was so wounded from the process that she's got an armor-like veneer when it comes to any male talking to her outside of business. Still there's a huge hole and need for love but will it be filled by someone worthwhile and sincere? Whether either likes it or not, ittle by little, Morgan and Nat are drawing closer, beginning with admiration for each other's work. Soon, they find they're always thinking of each other, including how physically hot each one is to the other!
Nat's got a history holding him back, being married to a celebrity with money and finding the high maintenance and partying life can't hide the lack of love his wife really felt for him. But at the time he thought it was perfect, despite his father's and other town people's cautionary words. Now he's burnt out from it all and therefore extremely hesitant mentally toward a new romance, even though his heart and body are screaming otherwise when Morgan comes to mind or in her actual presence!
Some secrets remain to be handled one at a time. Past attitudes about former family weddings tend to put ideas in the mind that could seriously affect one's future relationship. But Morgan and Nat are growing because of the love they finally admit, including by the way, some ultra-hot sexy scenes they share. Shedding the old destructive skins of the past, they will eventually decide that the future is not always a repetition of the past, as long as one understands what went wrong with that past.
Haven Creek is a lovely, warm-hearted romance sure to please those who love a happily-ever-after style ending! Nicely done, Rochelle Alers!

5.0 out of 5 stars The perfect mate sometimes is the one living next door 28 May 2013
By Mary J. Gramlich - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Mass Market Paperback
When Nate and Morgan find themselves back where their lives started it is fate and destiny that they cross paths. Morgan is a renowned architect starting the daunting task of restoring Angels Landing Plantation but she knows the man to help her bring this dream to fruition and he is the man she loved forever, Nate.

The more time and energy they spend with one another has lighting flashing in the sky and dreams of a life spent together long term coming true. Both have nosy families, small town gossip, and some baggage yet they are confident enough to accept who and what they are. More time and lots of sweet, gentle kisses and loving glances show Nate and Morgan that the perfect match has been standing right in front of them all along.

Rochelle Alers is the rock star of romance with a series and proves is with each new book in this series.
