in this super story, by Colin West.
Appealing paperback covers open to 18 high quality shiny pages, in the popular 2-page spread format.
Colourfully illustrated throughout this book is further enhanced by meaningful facial expressions and a repeat element.
Clear, easy-to-follow text....enhanced in places.... FOR EFFECT!
Example of text:-
'...."Have you seen the crocodile?" asked the parrot.
"No," said the dragonfly.
"Have you seen the crocodile?" asked the parrot and the dragonfly.
"No," said the bumble bee..........'
And off the new trio go to ask a fourth....then a fifth..........and so the story carries on.
So where is the crocodile?
Hmmm......well, MUCH closer that all think, as it turns out!
In a read-aloud environment this book is VERY popular as it offers great scope for joining in....not just in terms of the repeat elements and the memory game, but also the scanning of the illustrations for clues, generally resulting in the more observant spotting the aforementioned crocodile!
And the ending......keeps the young audience wondering........he didn't, did he?
Oh, and can you spot the frog on the inner cover pages, front and back?

"Not me," said the monkey
"Go tell it to the toucan!"

Having read this book I went on to purchase the complete series of these books for my 3 year old son. They are very easy to read, my son reads them himself, and have lovely bright illustrations. The stories are repetitive but make for a really good memory testing tool.

I bought this book for my young grandson, having loved 'Not Me said the Monkey' and 'Pardon, said the Giraffe', by the same author. These two books are wonderful, and I love reading them, as much as he loves listening to them. I have to say however, that I don't think this one is in the same league...and neither does he. If you are looking for a great book, that's a bit different, choose one of the others.
