4.0 out of 5 stars Cake bakes 12 Oct 2011
Format:Paperback
A great book to have. Most of the receipes are fairly simple and all of the ingredients is available locally where I live (Australia). Some of the fillings and toppings are a bit on the sweet side but you can always tone them down or not use them at all. The chocolate syrup bundt cake is sensational.

4.0 out of 5 stars So far, so good. 6 Oct 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I've tried a couple of recipes and they turned out good. The only con I've seen so far is they usually call for applesauce, something you can't get in regular shops in Spain (where I live). When I find a substitute, I'll try more of the recipes and I'll review the book again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Must-have vegan cakes! 1 Feb 2013
By Kate
Format:Paperback
This book is a must-have for vegan baking. The recipes use ingredients that are easy to find, and don't rely on commercial egg replacers. Each cake is photographed, which is rare for a vegan baking book and makes me want to try them all!

5.0 out of 5 stars Most popular chocolate cake with all five kids, 28 Jan 2013

despite the fact that none of them are vegan. Recipes I tried were light, easy to make and had a great rise. Very child and adult friendly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Vegan made EASY! 23 April 2011
By alkolesar - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
I love Kris Holecheck's other books but this one takes the cake! (pun totally intended) While I'm not vegan, or even vegetarian, the recipes in this book are easy to follow and the results are delicious. Admittedly I've used some of these recipes on my family without their prior knowledge of the ingredients and when I told them the cake they ate was vegan nobody could believe it. I think the thing I enjoy most in this book is that Kris gives you alternatives. With every recipe there are tips; if you're gluten free do this, if you don't have this type of flour try a combination of this and this. This cook book has full page pictures so you know what your final product should look like. :)
Overall I'd say this is one of the best cake books I own and every holiday and birthday will be celebrated around one of these cakes.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great cookbook!!! LOVE IT! 23 April 2011
By Vegan Symphony - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
So, I got the cookbook yesterday and also someone gave me a slow cooker (ie. crockpot). I thumbed through the book and found that there were cake recipes for slow cookers. Intrigued, I decided to make the "Slow as Apple Pie Cake". Now, I am a chocolate person and any chocolate cake would be good for me...so I made the apple cake..and WOW! It was amazing! Simply delicious and I love how the author's recipes are so outside the box.....
The book is beautiful with glossy pages and full size color pictures for every recipe. I can't wait to bake more of her recipes. I highly recommend this book. It is really neat (and as a side note, I have her first book as well--which I love, but always felt needed photos. This one is just perfect!!!)

5.0 out of 5 stars have your cake and Vegan Too! 22 April 2011
By Michelle - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This is a really beautiful cookbook with lots of wonderful pictures. I have only made 2 of the recipes so far and all I can say is YUM! I made the pineapple upside down cake and the butter cream frosting and snicker doodle cake. Both cakes were so moist and like heaven in my mouth. My husband and kids loved them! I shared the pineapple upside down cake with the neighbors that are in love with Paula Deen.....they loved it too! I can't wait to make more this weekend. There is advice and recipes for gluten free cakes, egg and dairy replacement and pantry staples for baking. Also, a nice section on trouble shooting any problems and a section on cake decorating.
I prefer to use almond milk in the recipes because soy milk in the past has made my cakes turn out more like a muffin consistency.

5.0 out of 5 stars Eaters of all kinds of diets will love this! 24 Jun 2011
By Tara Wood - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This is a must-have cookbook. There are varying levels of difficulty and cakes for all occasions. I have been vegan for about a year, but vegetarian before that for about 6 years. Even when I was "just" vegetarian, I did vegan baking almost exclusively. My husband and stepkids are vegetarian but the rest of our families are hearty omnivores. I mention this because whenever I host a family gathering I bake vegan, and if we go to another relatives house I now bring my own vegan treat. I have now converted my extended family to vegan baking! On one of the last birthday parties, one of the biggest meat-eaters of the family excitedly asked if I had made one of the cakes from this book again (I had not, I was making vegan beignets). I used to make "regular" cakes for most of the group and some vegan baking for myself and anyone who liked it and now I only bake vegan as it seems my family prefers that! I was a very experienced baker before, so I would like to think it is not because of the taste that they stopped eating my "regular" baking ;-)

Anyway, this is a great book to have (I would also suggest "Vegan Cupcakes Take Over the World) by Isa & Terry (or really any of their cookbooks) and there are some recipes that can be made in a rice cooker in a short time - I will be making one myself tonight!

5.0 out of 5 stars I want to make every single recipe in this book 9 May 2011
By C. Mahoney - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
...can't wait that's true for any of the other cookbooks I own!
This book has some extremely helpful tips and tricks (why did my cake have a dome top? Why did it sink? What can I substitute for bananas/soymilk/eggs/whatever?) to make it less intimidating to jump into cake-baking. I have made a few so far-- the banana fudge striped cake stands out, as does the tasty plum coffee cake. I didn't have great success with the rice cooker chocolate cake, but I think that was my fault as I probably didn't grease the pan well enough. Yeah, I was scraping out those remains for eons. That doesn't deter from my 5-star review, though, because this book is great and turns any day into a celebration.
